Bohl Isn't up to the New Reality...

...which by the way for the record, I think sucks. Swen's stated reason, “just ain’t fit my style, ” while perfectly understandable, represents a modern-day player who quits his team if his "style" is cramped, much like a 5th grader would in little league. Did the two try to work out a solution? Whose ears were more plugged?

Four SMU players simply quit in early October after the team started 2-2. Just like that.

If anything would drive Bohl away from coaching, this sort of thing seems it. It's got to be tough to give up control to kids you recruit, develop, give playing time to, etc. who can end up succeeding to the point they feel comfortable calling you out about not being their "style"--and the only remedy is booting them.

It's even tougher when your won/loss record at UW literally defines mediocre.

More and more players today have no problem questioning a coach's philosophy when they lose or are average, and dismissing them is about the only way left to keep discipline. That or win games... Miami Hurricane coach Mario Cristobal addressing players & parents bitching about the program and playing time:

"I’m a parent myself and I think it’s important to teach our own children to handle stuff like adults in a face-to-face manner. As it relates to posting on social media I was raised very different than anything that would relate to anything such as that. A parent is very free and welcome to pick up their son if they’re not happy with their playing time at the University of Miami and I guess that’s my philosophy.”

That kind of talk will probably get him fired for being divisive...lol. In nine years, UW's program only once (briefly) looked like it was on an upward trajectory, and our developmental program approach now develops kids who go and hope to be champions elsewhere. That bonehead call vs. Boise apparently had residual effects....

Bohl's offense can't win big games, and some players are wise to that. More players today have no issue going bold on their coaches, particularly if they are stuffing the stat sheet while coach struggles to get above .500. But then the coach thinks people who question his style of coaching are little league coaches. Seems to me if he were winning more, he'd have more leverage in an argument about "style."

Swen dismissed from the team

Laramie, Wyo. (Nov. 28, 2022) -- University of Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl announced on Monday that junior running back Titus Swen has been dismissed from the Cowboy Football team for violations of team rules.

Swen’s dismissal is effective immediately. Swen will remain on scholarship until the completion of the current Fall 2022 semester so that he can complete his classes for this semester.

“Titus Swen’s personal conduct is below the standard necessary to be a member of Cowboy Football,” said Bohl.

There will be no further comment from Coach Bohl or other Wyoming Athletics personnel regarding Swen’s dismissal.

Tim Polasek

If there is to be a change in offensive philosophy next season - or even a tweak in scheme - then Bohl will need some outside the box thinking with a different coordinator at the position.

What do you expect Bohl to do in this regard?

Is Tim Polasek back for yet another go round or does Bohl shake things up?

Looking at some of the season ending stats....

Looking at some of the season ending stats was very revealing.

To say that Coach Bohl is a conservative coach is an understatement.

Some of the season ending stats stood out to me. Kickoff and Punts stats in particular.

Punt returns:

Wyoming: Had a total of 5 punt returns the WHOLE season for a whopping 20 yards total.

Opponents: Returned Wyoming punts the whole season 23 times for 279 yards!

Kick-off returns:

Wyoming: Had a total of 12 kick-off returns the whole season for a total of 258 yards.

Opponents: Had a total of 26 kick-off returns against us for a total of 584 yards.

Our opponents outgained us 863 yards to 278 yards on punt and kick-off returns for the season.

Also, looking at some of the offensive stats wasn't a pretty sight.

Wyoming:

Rushing: 2,253 total yards for the season.

Passing: 1,533 total yards for the season.

Opponents:

Rushing: 1,794 total yards for the season.

Passing: 2,637 total yards for the season.

Our opponents out gained Wyoming by 1,104 more passing yards for the season, while we out gained our opponents by 459 yards rushing.

Our opponents out gained us by 645 yards offensively over the season. This means that Wyoming's opponents due to more productive offenses got a whole game and a half about of offense more than Wyoming over the season. That is a lot to overcome.

Coach Bohl I would argue will say, gee the defense didn't have a good season. While I would argue that our offense was not very productive in the passing attacking and kept the Wyoming defense on the field too long. Coach Bohl likes controlling the clock (we averaged a little less than 2 minutes per game less than our opponents for the whole season), we did not win the time of possession due largely to our poor passing game imo.

Coach Bohl is so conservative on punts and kick-offs, that our opponents outgained Wyoming by 585 yards in punts and kick-offs. Talk about field position. Evidently Coach Bohl is so concerned about fumbling that all he wants out there is someone who is sure handed and punts and kick-off returns for Wyoming is pretty well a non-existing item anymore.

Need FBS level coaching…

When I was in my twenties, I was a top Amateur National caliber level cyclist and raced against the pros continually but I was constantly getting my head kicked in. I was good but the Professionals were just next level.

Same thing in college Football. FCS success doesn’t always translate to FBS success no matter if you had an Alabama style team at that level. Coaching wise, Bohl has shown that he can create a development program foundation and that’s about all he’s accomplished at Wyoming. The game has left Coach Bohl behind and he’s his own worst enemy.

Just time to move on…

The ONLY thing that matters.....

The ONLY thing that matters to Bohl and Tom is that Wyoming is bowl eligible again......

On to the Tater Bowl again....

I am laughing at Bohl's comment years ago, "those that stay will be champions".....

If there has been one constant in Bohl's tenure at Wyoming is pathetic offenses and inconsistent play overall.....

The Wyoming defense on that first series looked like no one gave a damn....

The Wyoming offense on every series so far looks so bad tonight it is embarrassing....

Morning After Thoughts

I didn’t bother watching because why would I waste my time, but between the box score, this board, and Twitter I got more than enough of a game summary to give my thoughts. We are the G5 version of Iowa. As much as some of you piss and moan about Bohl being an FBS coach, he’s good enough to get the team bowl eligible with his philosophy and that’s the ceiling until they change the offense. Defense and the run game can only carry you so far and once you get tired and dinged up at the end it’s not enough. I will still say this team over achieved. They got ran out of the first game of the year and the last, but I think he did more with less this year and had a winning conference record which you all scream about. The other break I’ll give him is in regards to the injuries. I do think by the end the amount of key pieces we were down was significant and it showed in the special teams area of the game. If you’re going to give Linder a pass for Ike then you have to acknowledge we had a ton of guys out here.

Last thoughts. Bohl will be back unless he retires. Unless he changes his offensive philosophy or gets a little less conservative next year will be about the same. Until then, I’d say some of you take a deep breath and realize that this isn’t life and death and worth pulling your hair out over.

It’s past panic time for basketball

As one of the biggest basketball homers on the board, it’s only fair to call a spade a spade. This is a disaster of a start to the most anticipated season in 20 years. Our at large hopes are very slim to gone and we aren’t even to December yet.

If I had to guess at the issues facing the team, obviously #1 is Ike. The team probably spent most of the offseason preparing to play one way with him and now we suddenly don’t have that.

There is a lot of talent on the team but to take an analogy from football, when you play two quarterbacks what that means is you really have no quarterback. We don’t have any kind of lineup cohesion. A good basketball team has it’s one or two stars and then 5-6 other guys who have very defined roles. Nobody has a defined role.

There are other things, I worried about Andersons FT % when he transferred and that worry has become very real, etc., but I think we’re just really lost in our lineups and roles. The players Probably bought too much of the hype themselves.

I thought we could weather the storm of Ike being out better than this. What an unfortunate start to the season, Linder has some work to do to right the ship.
