Paul Feinbaum - 'CU is a bad job"

On Get Up this morning.......' a program that was once a power twenty or more years ago, has totally crashed and burned. It's a bad job'. I giggled at that. He says Neon Dion will not take the job, that's clear because he hasn't yet. CU fans are so full of themselves. I'd like to see Tad Boyle schedule Wyoming again, but he won't. Why? Because we took em to the woodshed and he does not like that at all. No more Wyoming on the CU hoops schedule. Bunch of ass hats

No Plan B....

We have enough talent on this roster to be much better than we are--without Ike. Looked like a team with no confidence. Where is our go-to guy? After today's game, people should consider what happens if we don't get Graham back in a full time role.

It's madding how dependent we are on the 3. We were so dedicated to the 3-ball we refused to consider other options. No other post guy? Multiple times we'd beat guys off the dribble--only to back out/pull up and look to the arc for a damn three. I thought by now we'd find a guy that would step up and be a catalyst. Where's the up tempo offense? Two fast break points today. Maldonado was even soft today. Hopefully that gets fixed. Never pressured GCU at any point today. Kyman seemed to be the only guy who wanted the ball. Our issues won't magically go away when Ike comes back. We've got another month (at least ) without an inside presence, and yet the game plan seems to be..........three pointers. Other concerns (physicality) that were real obvious today too. Linder was off the floor in three seconds today while his team was still shaking hands. Step up coach, and come up with more ideas...

If we're going to scuffle along like this, reduce Hunter's minutes and give Powell more time, let him get abused, get thrown around, etc. Let him fail and know what it takes. Even if Ike comes back fully healthy, he'll inevitably get into foul trouble. I'm going to defer to Linder for a few more games, but if shooting 40% or better from the arc is our only strategy, then we're in for a 10-12 win season.

Wyoming will be matched up against the Ohio Bobcats from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The game will be played on Friday, Dec. 30 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., and will kick off at 2:30 p.m., M.T.

“The Arizona Bowl enjoys a great national reputation of community involvement, offering outstanding activities for the participating teams and putting on one of the best bowl games in the nation,” said University of Wyoming Head Football Coach Craig Bohl.

“We had a great experience in 2019 being part of the Arizona Bowl. I know our fans are excited about the opportunity to go back to Tucson again, and our players are extremely excited about the chance to play another game together and represent the University of Wyoming and the state of Wyoming.”

“We couldn’t be happier to accept an invitation to this year’s Arizona Bowl,” said University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman. “The Arizona Bowl provided our team and our fans with a wonderful experience when we appeared in the 2019 game, and we are looking forward to having another great experience this year.

“This is a great accomplishment by Coach Bohl, his coaching staff and the players to earn a bowl bid as one of the youngest teams in the country, and the extra practice opportunities throughout this month will give this team a chance to continue to grow and develop for the future.”

The Cowboys defeated every Mountain Division opponent except eventual MW Division Champion Boise State, who beat the Cowboys by only three points, 20-17.

Ohio finished the regular season with a 9-4 overall mark and were 7-1 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), capturing the MAC East Division title and playing in the MAC Championship Game where they lost by a score of 17-7 to Toledo.

The Cowboys have met the Ohio Bobcats twice previously, with the Cowboys winning both meetings in 2007 and 2008 by one-point in each game -- 34-33 in Athens, Ohio, in 2007 and 21-20 in Laramie in 2008.

This will be the Cowboys’ second appearance in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl, having defeated Georgia State in the 2019 game by a score of 38-17.

Cowboys Enjoy a Magical Season in 2022

Entering the season as the fourth youngest team in the country, the Wyoming Cowboys put together a magical season in 2022. The season included Wyoming winning four games decided by a touchdown or less. This year’s Wyoming Cowboys also displayed a toughness to come from behind in five games this season to record wins.

The 2002 Cowboy team also won all three of its rivalry trophies versus Colorado State, Hawai’i and Utah State and defeated long-time conference rivals Air Force and New Mexico.

Wyoming’s Recent Bowl Success the Best in School History

Wyoming will be making its fifth bowl appearance in the past seven seasons, which is the only time in school history that Wyoming has made that many bowl appearances in that span of time.

Chasing History

The Cowboys will enter this year’s Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl chasing history. Having won its last three bowls games, the Pokes will be trying to match Wyoming’s all-time school record for consecutive bowl wins of four. The only time in its history that Wyoming has won four consecutive bowl appearances was in the 1950s and ‘60s when the Cowboys won the 1951 Gator Bowl, 1956 Sun Bowl, 1958 Sun Bowl and 1966 Sun Bowl. UW’s current streak includes wins in the 2017 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the 2019 Arizona Bowl and the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

This year’s appearance will be Wyoming’s 18th bowl appearance in history. The Cowboys are 9-8 overall in bowl games.

A Coaching First

Head coach Craig Bohl will set a new standard for Cowboy football this bowl season when he will become the first head coach in Wyoming Football history to take five Cowboy teams to bowl games (2016 Poinsettia Bowl, 2017 Potato Bowl, 2019 Arizona Bowl, 2021 Potato Bowl and 2022 Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl). Bohl originally set a UW record in 2021 when he took his fourth team to a bowl game. Prior to Bohl, UW Athletics Hall of Fame Coach Paul Roach had held the record, taking three Wyoming teams to bowl games (1987, ‘88 and ‘90).

Interesting Coaching Matchup

Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl and Ohio head coach Tim Albin have known each other for over 20 years. When Bohl was the defensive coordinator at Nebraska from 2000-02, Albin was a graduate assistant on Frank Solich’s staff at Nebraska. In 2004, Bohl hired Albin as his offensive coordinator at North Dakota State where they guided NDSU to an 8-3 record and a No. 25 national ranking in the Bison’s first year competing at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.

Linder Quote

"In terms of the effort that's required every day to be a really good team," Wyoming's third-year head coach said, referring to his disappointment in the Cowboys' unthinkable 3-5 start. "I told them now you're seeing why I was frustrated, why I was losing my mind in the summertime. 'Hey, coach, it's only the summer.' Well, I know this, I've been a part of a lot of good teams, and those teams were everyday teams that could show up and put in the work and understand the importance of every possession in practice and not just say, 'we're going to show up to the game and be good.'

"All those pats on the back, all those people telling them how good they are, those people are nowhere to be found anymore. So we've got to figure it out."

Wyoming vs Grand Canyon Summary

Cowboys Fall to Grand Canyon in Homestand Opener, 66-58

Kyman leads Pokes with 16 points

WYOMING vs GCU GAME STATS: https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/wyoming-grand-canyon-202212030661/

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 3, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowboy offense struggled late in the second half in a 66-58 loss to Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon in the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. A run by Grand Canyon in the final seven minutes was too much for the shorthanded Cowboys playing without Brandan Wenzel and Noah Reynolds to overcome.

“Ultimately it comes down to the fact that you’re not going to shoot the ball well every night, so on the nights you’re not making shots you’ve got to hang your hat on your defense,” UW head coach Jeff Linder said. “You have to find a way to win a game.”

The Cowboys were led by Jake Kyman with 16 points and six rebounds. It was his second game this season in double figures and career-high with the Pokes. Hunter Maldonado added 12 points and four assists. Hunter Thompson added six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Ethan Anderson added eight points on the night.

“It has been hard -- not knowing if Maldo (Hunter Maldonado) was going to be able to go today,” Linder said. Then Noah (Reynolds) with his cramps and he got a charlie horse in practice and (Brendan) Wenzel hurt his back on a charge in Salt Lake against Santa Clara so they both missed today’s game. It’s not like you consistently can say, okay we’ve got this group of guys and we know exactly what we can do with this group of guys because you’ve got guys in different spots than what they’re used to

The Pokes did hold a 35-30 lead on the boards and had an 11-1 advantage on the offensive glass. The Pokes shot 35 percent from the field and 29 percent from deep hitting 10 threes in the game. Grand Canyon shot 46 percent from the field in the contest and 42 percent from the three-point line.

After Max Agbonkpolo opened the game with a bucket, Grand Canyon went on a 5-0 run to take a 5-2 advantage. Xavier DuSell tied the contest with a triple at the 16:33 mark of the half. The Cowboys would struggle from the field going over three minutes without a bucket, as GCU took a 12-6 lead with under 14 minutes left in the first half.

Maldonado hit a pair of triples to make it a 14-12 game for Grand Canyon with a few ticks over right minutes left in the opening frame. But another 5-0 run from the Lopes made it a 19-12 contest a minute later.

Wyoming would cut the Grand Canyon lead to as little on four on a few occasions, but the Lopes would take a 28-21 lead with 6:11 on the clock in the opening frame. The Pokes went over three minutes without a bucket until Anderson hit a shot for a 28-23 game with 4:20 left. He then earned a steal and made it a three-point game seconds later.

The Pokes made it a two-point game on a cutting layup from Kenny Foster, but the Lopes would hold the Pokes scoreless until Kyman made it a one-point game at 31-30 with under a minute left and that is how the first half would end.

Thompson gave Wyoming a brief lead to open the half, but a triple from Grand Canyon made it a 34-32 game for the Lopes. But Maldonado and Anderson hit back-to-back layups and gave Wyoming a 38-34 lead two-plus minutes into the second frame.

The Lopes would tie the contest, but Maldonado would score four-straight and make it a 42-38 game with 15:36 left in the game. Grand Canyon went on a 7-0 run and took the lead back at 45-42 with 12:54 left in the second period.

Thompson tied the game at 47-47 with a three-pointer with 10:36 left in the game. Kyman came right back down the floor and knocked down his third of the game for a 50-47 Cowboy advantage with under 10 minutes left. Yet another 7-0 run made it a 54-50 game for the Lopes with under eight minutes left.

Kyman made it a two-point game with a pair of free throws, but the lead was pushed back to12, as Wyoming struggled from the field missing eight straight shots until Foster hit a three for a 64-55 game with 1:18 left. The Pokes would fall in the end though 66-58

Grand Canyon was led by Ray Harrision with 21 points on the night. Gabe McGlothlan added 14 points and five rebounds.

Wyoming is headed back to Tucson, Arizona, to play in the Arizona Bowl for the second time in four seasons, sources told the Star-Tribune.
The Cowboys (7-5) will face a Mid-American opponent on Dec. 30 at Arizona Stadium. The Arizona Bowl is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. and will be streamed on the platforms of game sponsor Barstool Sports.
UW was in the thick of the Mountain West race until a deflating 20-17 loss to Boise State on Nov. 19 at War Memorial Stadium.
“I’m pleased that we’re playing in a bowl game,” head coach Craig Bohl said after his team’s 30-0 loss at Fresno State in the regular-season finale. “We had seven wins; we had two tough teams to play at the end. We played one of them pretty closely, and the other one I think we probably could have played for three days and probably had the same outcome.

Loved Bohl's last comment.
