I know the portal window opens twice during the year, and that the main window for kids to enter is the 45-day period following the conference championship games.

Does anyone know the thinking as to why the portal opens during bowl season? Seems especially damaging to the bowl season tv product to have all these kids sitting out.

Anyone know why they set it up this way rather than waiting until January?

I would argue that the WR room at UW is in worse shape than the RB room. At least the freshmen RB's have a good OL to run behind.

But the WR's:

Our leading WR (which isn't saying much), Cobbs - 407 yards, just went into the Transfer Portal. Behind him is maybe the worst WR room in America.

Wyatt Wieland - 21 catches for 289 yards.
Will Pelissier - 8 catches for 101 yards.
Ryan Marquez - 1 catch for 6 yards.
Alex Brown - 3 for 41 yards.

Wieland, Pelissier & Marquez are all walk-ons! I am not even sure if Pelissier or Brown are going to be able to play in the bowl game, I know that both have been injured. No other WR on the roster has any stats, and most of these non-stat guys are the scholarship players!

Jaylen Sargent - No stats
Caleb Merritt - No Stats
Tyrese Grant - No Stats
Chase Locke - No Stats
Gunner Gentry - No Stats (injured)
Evan Hiremath - No Stats
Charlie Coenen - No Stats

The ONLY real threat we have is at TE, with Treyton Welch - 17 catches for 217 yards.

It sure does appear that Bohl thinks of the WR position as being little more than another set of blockers for the RB's and if a WR wants to see the field he has to be first and foremost a blocker, catching the ball actually is secondary.....at best! I don't see how anyone can actually say that Bohl values the pass game when he obviously values a WR's blocking abilities above the ability to get open and catch the ball. As long as Bohl views the WR position like this nothing will change with the WR position at UW.

I guess not one of those 6 younger players could have helped UW this year? If Wieland is our leading WR we are in trouble. Wieland does not have the speed to get separation. This is truly a sad situation imo.

Our lower bowl section has a ton of open seats for both women's and men's games. There are a few people I recognize as season ticket holders, but some of the seats have different people in them for games or remain empty. Have they sold out the lower bowl for season tickets for the men? What are the lower bowl season tickets like for the women? I'm just wondering if people are waiting for the conference to begin or if we just aren't selling season tickets & people know they can get good, lower bowl seats if they decide to come at the last minute. Just way too many empty seats as I look around the whole arena. I'm so glad that when we took our kids in the 90s (even with not so hot teams), the AA was packed.

Students were showing up, but as Clark said, the end of the semester may make it harder to come to a game if you've lost confidence in a team. They were there tonight, just in lower numbers. Saturday's game against Louisiana Tech should draw more interest following tonight's win.

Albuquerque has a large population compared to Laramie, so I would expect their attendance to be better. They also don't have the severe winter weather problems that Wyoming has. I totally respect those fans that regularly travel to the basketball games whether it's Cheyenne, across Wyoming, or Colorado!

Pokes have one more game to play, whichever bowl game it may be… until that game is in the books the young
men wearing the brown and gold warrent our support.

They have earned that right of our support, not thru W’s-Lis, but thru the work they have put in and the dedication they have shown for them as individuals and collectively as a team be the best that they can be.

Once the season is over, I encourage all to correspond with The Governor, The UW Board of Trustee’s, The UW President, & The UW AD and express to them in a respectful manner why you feel changes need to be made in the football program, and what your planned actions will be if no such changes are made. If enough people reach out to them, expressing their belief’s, they will have to pay attention.

I urge you all to carry on a continuing dialogue with them, it will let them know you are sincere in your beliefs, and you are not going to go away.

Finally, quit beating up on each other. Not all opinions are in agreement on this board. If one’s opinion differs from yours, certainly enter into a discussion re the differences of opinion, but do so respectfully, after all we are all UW Cowboy fans and we all want success for the program… Respect the person with the differing opinion as you wish to be respected for your beliefs….

Will any of this do any good? Who knows, but we have to begin somewhere….

About The Teams

The Cowboys head into the contest with a 3-5 overall record after falling at home on Saturday to Grand Canyon 66-58. The Pokes are averaging 72.3 points per game and allow 69.9 points per night. The Pokes are shooting 44 percent from the field and the opposition is shooting 45 percent. Wyoming is hitting 9.8 three per game this season for second in the conference and No. 32 in the nation. The Pokes also only commit 14 fouls per contest, a number that leads the conference and ranks in the top-30 in college basketball.



Texas A&M-Commerce is off to a 4-5 start in its first year at the Division I level. Three of the Lions’ four victories have come over Division I opponents, one of them being Air Force. Texas A&M-Commerce most recently fell at Denver, 84-75, on Sunday. The Lions were picked to finish seventh in the 10-team Southland Conference preseason poll.

The Cowboys are led in scoring by Hunter Maldonado at 14.3 points per game. He also adds 4.6 rebounds per contest and has 24 assists on the season. He is shooting 47 percent from the field on the year. Noah Reynolds, who missed Saturday’s game adds 10.1 points per game. He is shooting 49 percent from the field. Max Agbonkpolo adds 9.9 points per game and 4.1 rebounds. Ethan Anderson leads the Cowboys in assists with 3.6 per game and Hunter Thompson leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per contest.



The Lions average 70.1 points per game while allowing foes to score 66.3 points per contest. Texas A&M-Commerce shoots 42.3 percent from the floor, but struggles from 3-point land only hitting just 27.7 percent of its shots from deep. LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 6, 2022) – The Cowboys used a 16-2 run in the second half to power past Texas A&M Commerce by a score of 91-76 on Tuesday evening in the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. Guard Noah Reynolds poured in a career-high 30 points in the contest. Wyoming outscored the Lions 48-34 in the second half of the contest.



“That has been the challenge losing these last four games,” UW head coach Jeff Linder said. “We’ve had the lead at some point in the last 10 minutes of all those games, but we’ve allowed teams to go on runs. We found out some things tonight. It’s been hard with guys in and out of the lineup. I knew the lineup I really wanted to go with as we move forward, knowing that there is a certain level of collective toughness and grit that you have to have. Down the stretch of games, you have to have a certain level of mental awareness, discipline and effort to close out games.”



Reynolds hit a career-high 11 shots in the contest and shot 73 percent from the field. Brendan Wenzel added 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for his first career double-double. Guard Kenny Foster added 14 points for his first double-figure contest since Nevada on Jan. 24, 2021.



The Pokes shot 49 percent from the field in the contest but were 70 percent from inside the three-point line. Wyoming shot a season-high 43 free throws. The Pokes also held a 40-33 advantage on the glass with 11 offensive rebounds and scored 36 points in the paint to TAMC’s 22. Texas A&M Commerce was held to 41 percent from the field in the contest but did knock down 11 threes in the game.



Foster, who made his first start of the season scored four-straight points to give Wyoming the lead in the opening 70 seconds. Hunter Thompson made it a 7-0 game with a triple seconds later. The Lions made it an 8-5 game until Brendan Wenzel added a and-one play and a three pointer for a 14-4 lead with just over 15 minutes left in the first half.



The Lions would hit a pair of threes for a 16-11 game until a slam from Jeremiah Oden and pair of free throws from Foster made it a 20-11 game at the 11:22 mark of the first half. TAMC made it a 20-16 game halfway through the half going on a 5-0 run.



Both teams would go scoreless for over four minutes with the Lions making it a 24-21 game, but Reynolds added a free throw for a 25-21 game with 6:45 left in the half. Wyoming went without a field goal for over five minutes and TAMC went on a 7-0 run to take a 30-27 lead with under four and a half minutes in the half.



TAMC would build the lead to four, but a triple from Thompson made it a 33-32 game for the Pokes first basket in six minutes. The Lions would make it a 37-33 at the 2:20 mark with a pair of free throws. The Pokes would make it a one-point game at 37-36, but it was pushed back to three points at 39-36 with under a minute left in the half.



Reynolds would hit four-straight free throws to give Wyoming a 40-39 lead with 36 seconds left in the half, the Lions took a brief lead, Reynolds hit a three-pointer for a 43-42 lead for the Cowboys at the half.



The Pokes would take a brief two-point lead, but the Lions would cut it to one point until Reynolds added a bucket for a 48-45 game with 17 minutes left. The Lions made it a one-point game until a Wenzel three-pointer got him to a double-double and give Wyoming a 53-49 lead.



The Pokes would go on a 16-2 run over nearly four minutes to take a 66-51. Wenzel added six points during the surge and Reynolds would add five with Oden using a fast break slam for his second dunk of the game. Nate Barnhart in his debut added free throws for a 74-59 game with under eight minutes remaining.



The Lions hit three-straight triples to make it a 74-68 game with a little over six minutes left. The Pokes answered with Reynolds adding a layup and an and-one play for a 79-68 game with under five minutes remaining.



Reynolds would get to 30 points and the Cowboys would enjoy an 82-71 lead with two minutes remaining. A triple from Xavier DuSell made it an 86-72 game with just under ninety seconds remaining and the Cowboys would go on to take the contest 91-76.



The Lions were led Jerome Brewer, Jr. with 23 points on the night off the bench.

Interesting Coaching Matchup

Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl and Ohio head coach Tim Albin have known each other for over 20 years. When Bohl was the defensive coordinator at Nebraska from

2000-02, Albin was a graduate assistant on Frank Solich's staff at Nebraska. In 2004, Bohl hired Albin as his offensive coordinator at North Dakota State where they guided NDSU to an 8-3 record and a No. 25 national ranking in the Bison's first vear competing at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.
