We need at QB and WR.....

My feeling is that we need a QB that actually has a real feel for the position, has the guts and accuracy with his arm. I am not looking for a great runner, because if he is, he will take off as one of his first options and then he becomes a Sean and needs numerous surgeries. We need a real leader with a great arm that is accurate. It seems like Bohl is just as interested in the guys ability to run as his passing. There are a lot of HS QB's that are the best athletes on their teams but not necessarily have all of the skills, touch and feel for the QB position needed to be a top tier FBS QB. It appears that Bohl is willing to "develop" these HS guys into QB's but so far his track record at Wyoming is pretty disappointing except for the one exception.

Bohl HAS TO be willing to play the best real QB on the team and live with his mistakes for awhile. So far Bohl has such an aversion to mistakes that he is willing to lose with an "experienced" QB simply because he might make less mistakes. You MUST have a threat back there at QB, not just the "safe" QB. Something else, our WR room is probably one if not the worse in the MWC. Not to knock Weiland, but if he is one of our top threats at the WR position it tells you how bad the whole room is. Weiland is sure handed but is not a real threat as he does not have the speed to develop space. Throwing to Weiland or any of the other WR's just about always requires to throwing into double or even triple coverage. I have been amazed as to how many times Peasley throws into double coverage. Much of that is simply because we have no WR that can get real separation.

If I were Bohl, I wouldn't put out a help wanted sign like last year, but I would certainly and quietly beat the bushes for another signal caller with a great arm. I would also tell acouple of the QB's that Wyoming is moving on into another direction and that their playing time will be gone. No matter what, the QB position would have to be a totally open competition in the spring, and Bohl has to be willing to change his approach somewhat to the QB position, we need to take more risk there to get a better offensive threat back there.

The Black Hole of Calcutta....

Per Cody's site:

"* Wyoming's passing attack has been abysmal at the most critical juncture of the season. Over the last four games, Jayden Clemons and Peasley have combined to complete 31-of-75 passes for 304 yards, a touchdown and eight -- yes, eight -- interceptions. The Cowboys were lucky to finish that stretch 2-2 with numbers like that coming from the most important position. This has to be fixed. It's a topic of discussion every fall on the high plains, but something has to change."

How many times have we heard over the last 9 years statements like this? We are never going to reach the heights everyone wants until the Black Hole of Calcutta (i.e. - the Wyoming QB position) is fixed. How can fans not be frustrated when we have heard this type of comment year after year and yet nothing changes? We had one of the most physically talented young QB's in the nation and all Bohl wanted to do was hold him back. Bohl has constantly stated that the QB position needs to be at the 60% completion level, but we never get there under him! Despite the accolades that the young QB's have come into the program with, I am not convinced that there is a true answer to the problems of the Black Hole of Calcutta in the program now. I am however unfortunately convinced that neither Clemons or Peasley are the answer. They are "nice" QB's, but neither of them are close to the Haener kid that we saw last night or close to the quality of the Hawaii (now SJSU) QB that has chewed us up twice now and not the young QB that is at Boise State now. We will constantly be looking up to other schools in our conference until the QB position is fixed.

This team shot its wad last week

And I don't blame them. They left it all on the field against Boise and clearly don't give two shits about being in Fresno (nor should they as the game has zero bearing on conference title, bowl game, etc.)

I know, I know, they have 'Wyoming' on the jersey so they should give it their all. You bet. All I'm saying is that this is a very understandable and predictable performance.

Congrats to Bohl for doing just enough....

If it were up to me and many on this board, Bohl would be packing his bags after yet another mediocre season. The only difference between this season and any other not being led by #17 is that we managed to win a few games against bad opponents on the road. Usually we lose to a bad Hawaii team on the island or a bad New Mexico team.

Sadly Bohl has done just enough to keep the wolves at bay and will be able to retire on his own terms in a few years. As I have said before, there is not enough passion from Wyoming fans to really move the meter unless we are in Vic Koenning territory for ineptness. Wyoming fans want to go to Laramie on a fall Saturday between hunting trips and experience the game. Most couldn't name more than two players on the team. I know this because I talk to these fans. And when I bitch and whine about the mediocrity they look at me like I have two heads. "But we win some games and go to bowl games! You are a whiner! Are you a CSU fan too??" And conversation over. Lets face it. We are stuck with the bald curmudgeon.

OK Cowboy FANS after the loss-What are we thinking about the Pokes at Fresno State

Those of you that left early and missed the last play on Saturday night don't have yet another memory burned into your skull!

A couple of others just to reminisce for the good ole days:

The meltdown at CU!

The Tiller decision in Vegas

Plus November 19, 2022! There are many more, but lets get positive now!

Pokes come back and win on the road to get them set for a quality bowl game!

Bowl Count for 11-20

Need 84 teams

Eligible - 74
5 - 15
4 - 2
Ineligible - 39

The Crazy forecast is for 9 teams to become eligible. The sleeper is if Army wins their final 2 games to make 84. Of the games this week, 5 of the 5-6 teams play stout opponents with 4 on the road.

If there become more than 84 teams eligible, the thing that really matters at this point with 7 MWC teams eligible is that Wyoming holds tiebreakers over USU and AFA. Unless the rules have changed, the MWC criteria for placement in one of the 6 spots is to be successful in conference play. If AFA, SJSU and USU win and Wyoming loses there would be 4 teams at 5-3 with USU at 6-2. Wyoming lost to SJSU and since SDSU beat SJSU we would still be considered 6th place ahead of AFA. It would be best for Wyoming regardless to cheer for BSU to beat USU as that would leave USU at 6-6 (5-3) with all 7 win teams having priority over 6 win teams and we have the tiebreaker on 2 teams being considered 5th place.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of winning conference games and being above .500. The snooze fest home loss to SJSU could have been a huge thorn. We are just barely eking our way in to a bowl game thanks to the late turnover by CSU last week unless we beat Fresno which at 8-4(6-2) would be a no doubter.

By conference eligible numbers with teams having a chance to become eligible:

ACC - 9 (2)
AAC - 7
B12 - 8
B10 - 9 (1)
CUSA - 4 (4)
Ind - 4 (2)
MAC - 4 (2)
MWC - 7
P12 - 7
SEC - 10 (3)
SBC - 5 (3)

Notes:

The MAC has 3 teams at 5-6 but two play each other.

NMSU is 4-6 but no announcement yet on a makeup with SJSU. They play at Liberty this weekend and are unlikely to win.

Army is 4-6 and should beat UMass setting up the game with Navy for pursuit of going 6-6.

Two of the Nation’s Winningest Active Head Coaches Will Face Off in Wyoming-Fresno State Game Two of college football’s winningest active head coaches will face off when the Wyoming Cowboys and Fresno State Bulldogs play this Friday.

Wyoming’s Craig Bohl currently ranks as the 11th winningest coach among active FBS head coaches with 156 career wins.

Fresno State’ Jeff Tedford ranks as the 20th winningest active head coach with 115 wins.

Cowboy Linebacker Easton Gibbs Among Top Tacklers in the Mountain West and the Nation

Wyoming sophomore linebacker Easton Gibbs leads the Cowboys in tackles this season with 99 tackles. He is averaging 9.0 tackles per game to rank No. 3 in the Mountain West and No. 31 nationally.

A year ago, he tallied 90 tackles, nearly reaching the elite 100-tackle mark. Gibbs enters this week with 231 career tackles.

Hoyland Ties the Wyoming School Record for Most Field Goals in a Single Season

Cowboy sophomore place-kicker John Hoyland will enter this week’s Fresno State game with 20 made field goals for the 2022 season.

Hoyland is tied for the school record of 20 made field goals in a single-season with Cory Wedel, who made 20 field goals in the 1996 season, and J.D. Wallum, who made 20 in the 2001 season.

Titus Swen Nearing Wyoming’s Top 10 Career Rushers, 15th Cowboy to Rush for 2,000 Career Yards

Cowboy running back Titus Swen is pursuing elite status in the history of Wyoming Football. The junior is moving closer and closer to Wyoming’s Top 10 career rushing list.

Swen enters this week with 2,098 career rushing yards and is only 90 yards away from the all-time Top 10 in Wyoming history.

His 212 rushing yards vs. Boise State on Nov. 19, 2022, pushed him over the 2,000-yard mark for his career, making him only the 15th Cowboy to reach that milestone.

Swen Needs Only 36 Yards to Record His First 1,000-Yard Rushing Season

Wyoming junior running back Titus Swen will enter this week’s game with 964 rushing yards this season and needs only 36 rushing yards to reach the 1,000-yard plateau for the season. It would be Swen’s first 1,000-yard rushing season.

There have been 15 seasons where an individual Cowboy has rushed for 1,000 yards. Only 11 Cowboys in the 126-year history of Wyoming Football have rushed for 1,000 yards in a single season. The reason their are only 11 Cowboys who have rushed for 1,000 yards and 15 total 1,000-yard seasons is because Brian Hill, Ryan Christopherson, Dabby Dawson and Xazavian Valladay each posted two 1,000-yard rushing seasons in their careers.

Wyoming-Fresno State Common Opponents

Wyoming and Fresno State have played four common opponents this season -- Boise State, Hawai’i, New Mexico and San Jose State.

The Cowboys and Bulldogs both defeated Hawai’i and New Mexico. Both teams lost to Boise State, while Fresno State defeated San Jose State and Wyoming lost to the Spartans.

Common Wyoming Boise State

Opponents Versus Versus

Boise State L 17-20 (H) L 20-40 (A)

Hawai’i W 27-20 (A) W 55-13 (H)

New Mexico W 27-14 (A) W 41-9 (A)

San Jose State L 16-33 (H) W 17-10 (H)

About the Fresno State Bulldogs

Fresno State, like Wyoming, has a 7-4 overall record this season. The Bulldogs are 6-1 in Mountain West Conference play and captured the West Division title. Fresno State will play in the MW Championship Game on Dec. 3 in Boise, Idaho.

The Bulldogs were the preseason favorite to win the West Division this season. They began the year with a win over Cal Poly before falling to Oregon State in the second game of the year. In the third game at USC, Bulldog quarterback Jake Haener was injured and would go on to miss the next four games. FS lost the first two games without Haener at UConn and at Boise State, but came back to win vs. San Jose State and New Mexico behind quarterback Logan Fife. Those two wins started a six-game winning streak, which Fresno State will carry into this Friday’s game.

Cowboys Earn Bowl Eligibility for the Sixth Time in Seven Seasons

The Wyoming Cowboys earned their sixth win of the 2022 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a 27-20 road victory over the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors, and with that sixth win earned bowl eligibility for the sixth time in the past seven seasons. Wyoming added a seventh win on Nov. 12 at Colorado State by a score of 14-13.

Under the direction of head coach Craig Bohl, Wyoming has appeared in the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl, the 2017 and 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowls and the 2019 Arizona Bowl. Wyoming was also bowl eligible in 2018 with a 6-6 record but did not receive a bowl bid.

Coach Bohl and his coaching staff are the only coaching staff in school history to win three bowl games (in 2017, ‘19 and ‘21) and are the only coaching staff to take Wyoming to four bowl games in a six-year time span (2016-21).

Next Up

After traveling to Fresno State, Wyoming will await the announcement of 2022 bowl invitations, which will begin being made after completion of conference championship games the weekend of Dec. 2-3.
