SEC commissioner...

SEC Commissioner Sankey said that THINGS WILL CHANGE as far as the postseason playoff picture is concerned. He actually was reported as saying, it needed to be bold letters....so there you go.

The ACC guys are in a heck of situation, Florida State is saying that they will leave if they don't get a larger portion of the pie! Stanford and Cal want in but some have blocked them.

The main issue that brought this about was the collapse of the PAC 12, and that they would no longer be a P5 conference. Guys, there is no way that the PAC 4 will be a P5 conference even if they bring some teams from the MWC and some from the AAC. It ain't happening, put a fork in it, it is done, this thing has been run over by a thousand cars and is DOA....the PAC (whatever) will not be a P5 conference until and if or when the big west coast teams come back.

I am not having good feelings about how the postseason playoffs will go if the SEC and BIG 10 get their way....the Big 12 and the ACC will be included but they won't carry the biggest sticks at the table. This just might be the issue that will eventually draw all of the big 4 out of the NCAA and be the big change. When TV contracts come up again in these conferences, there will be a lot of talk about kicking the NCAA out of the whole thing.

Bohl Breaks Down New Depth Chart

Wyoming Releases Updated Depth Chart

Cowboys Complete Final Scrimmage of Fall Camp

Laramie, Wyo. (Aug. 21, 2023) -- With the completion of the final scrimmage of 2023 Fall Camp last Saturday, the Wyoming Cowboy coaching staff released an updated depth chart on Monday. The depth chart includes 17 returning starters (10 on defense, five on offense and both the starting place-kicker and punter).

The seven new projected starters (six on offense and one on defense) include: veteran wide receivers Ryan Marquez and Wyatt Wieland; junior-college transfer running back Jamari Ferrell; and three talented young offensive linemen in offensive tackle Caden Barnett and offensive guards Wes King and Jack Walsh on offense; as well as impressive sophomore cornerback Kolbey Taylor on defense.

“Unlike last year, where there were some unknowns, we have a more mature football team, so I felt like it was appropriate to go ahead and release it,” said head coach Craig Bohl.

Among those veteran players listed No. 1 on the depth chart are graduate wide receivers Wieland and Marquez. Bohl is pleased with the increased depth and ability at wide receiver entering the 2023 season.

“We have more playmakers within that group,” said Bohl. “A guy like Ryan Marquez who has emerged and is in his sixth year, earned a scholarship. Wyatt (Wieland) another guy who has been here I think six years, came back from an injury and has worked hard. Alex Brown and I’m probably forgetting a couple guys along with the addition of our two transfer receivers (Ayir Asante and Devin Boddie Jr.) has been a real shot in the arm. We’re well pleased and you’ll see both of those guys playing in our first game -- how much I don’t know -- but a lot of times they’re doing some things that are really impressive.”

Bohl was asked about Jamari Ferrell’s development in fall camp after transferring to Wyoming in the summer of 2023 from Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, Calif. Bohl responded, “He’s our starter. We felt like he scrimmaged really well. Can a guy separate, can he break a tackle, all those type of things is what we’re looking for and when the lights came on (in the scrimmage) he really played well.”

Coach Bohl also confirmed that true freshman running back Keany Parks has been moved to defensive back. “He is now a D-back. He was an excellent athlete in high school. He is one of the few running backs I know that when you ask him to move some place else that he’ll do anything for the team. He was excited about that move and so we’re trying to feed him with a firehose right now. He still has a lot to learn, but he certainly has some excellent ability. He was a 24-foot long jumper and a great basketball player in high school.”

Hoyland Named AP Preseason All-American

John Hoyland Named an Associated Press Preseason Second Team All-American

2023 Associated Press Preseason All-America Teams

Laramie, Wyo. (Aug. 12, 2023) –
The Associated Press announced its 2023 Preseason All-America Teams on Monday and University of Wyoming junior place-kicker John Hoyland was named to the Second Team. Hoyland was the only player from a non-autonomous five conference to be named to either the AP First or Second Team.

Hoyland is coming off a 2022 season that saw him make 88% of his field goal attempts, ranking him as the best of any FBS kicker returning in 2023 who made more than 20 field goals last season. He achieved that percentage while being one of only two kickers in the country with four made field goals from over 50 yards during the 2022 season. Among kickers with at least 50 career attempts, his career 84.9% accuracy is tied for second-best.

Earlier this summer, Hoyland was named a 2023 Second Team Preseason All-American as selected by Athlon Sports and a Third Team Preseason All-American as named by Phil Steele. He was selected by Mountain West Media to the 2023 Preseason All-Conference Team, as well as being named to the First Team Preseason All-Mountain West Conference teams as selected by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

The junior from Broomfield, Colo., also is one of 30 FBS place-kickers named to the 2023 Lou Groza Award Preseason Watch List. In 2022, Hoyland was one of 20 semifinalists for the Groza Award.

Hoyland was a 2022 First Team All-Mountain West Conference selection as voted by MW head coaches and media. He led the MW and ranked No. 7 in the nation in field goals made (1.69 per game) in 2022. He also ranked No. 2 in the MW and No. 18 in the FBS in field-goal percentage (88.0 percent), making 22 of 25 field goal attempts. His 22 made field goals set a new Wyoming single-season school record, breaking the record of former Cowboy All-America kickers Cory Wedel, who made 20 field goals in 1996, and J.D. Wallum, who made 20 in 2001. In 2022, Hoyland made four field goals of over 50 yards -- 51, 53, 53 and 55. His 55-yarder was tied for the fifth longest in the FBS last season and was the longest in the Mountain West in ‘22.
