The burning question from week 2......

Can Evan Svoboda actually throw a football??????? Its a mystery!

Congratulations Pokes for a win! Got kind of ugly at certain times.

Player of the game - Andrew Peasley and close second was Ayir Asante and a close third, the Wyoming defense for most of the game.

I must admit that play in the 4th quarter seemed like Bohl and the rest of the coaches pulled back so far we lost momentum.

OK COWBOY FANS--What are you thinking WYO vs Portland State

Wyoming 34-13. We just don't seem to have a history, at all, against these lower level FCS teams playing that well.

It won’t be very competitive, but I could also see 27-13 as well. Here is hoping for something like 48-10, but I just don't think that history is on our side.

I would like to see a very safe margin in the late 3Q that Peasley could come out and give Swoboda some time. In warm ups--the new #17 sure can sling it, the new #17 not THE #17. Basic fact--Peasley must not run the ball as often as he did against TT. I suspect that Peasley was the X factor for the ability to beat TT. Sam will see more carries in week #2 and Ferrell and DQ duo will be good change of pace.

Re-watched the game last night

Did anyone catch the renderings of the West Side renovations that were shown on TV? If someone knows where those are can you please post?

As bad as the Cowboys were on offense and defense in the 1st quarter the Pokes were that good in the second and third. Peasley took at least two blatant helmet to helmet hits that should of been targeting calls. It was obvious that Tech's plan was to knock Peasley out of the game. There was also a missed targeting on a wide receiver (I think Wieland) that was right in front of the women's ref with the pony tail. She had a terrible game.

I'm not too impressed with the JUCO RB - doesn't have great size or speed and seemed overwhelmed - maybe first game jitters. Also, DQ is just too small for this offense; not sure what the O staff sees in him at RB but I would move him to a slot receiver or just a gadget player. Like the way Scott ran and I foresee him and Waylee being the main two guys going forward. I don't believe Richardson got in the game.

Play of the game was the Wrook Brown interception. That seemed to take all the confidence away from the Tech QB from that point until he started getting into a rhythm in the 4th quarter. Peasley was a gamer and loved the way hung in there but he missed a lot of easy open throws by either poor footwork or rushing the throw becauase he felt pressure when it wasn't there or hung on to the ball to long. But his 4th down throw in OT for the touchdown was a thing of beauty and I loved that he checked to the run on the 2 point conversion (You could hear him yell, Kill, Kill, Kill).

Anyone have any information on Kolby Taylor? The Tech passing game really picked up steam when he went out with his injury. Also, did the Alabama transfer any playing time? It would of been a tough catch but the Holy Cross transfer has to come down with that ball for a touch down throw.

Latest rumors.....

From what I am hearing, Oregon State and Washington State and the MWC are in an "advanced stage of discussions" of a merger under the PAC brand. Oregon State and Washington State are really pushing this and the news is, Gloria Navarez would be the commissioner, not George Kliavkoff who is the PAC commissioner now! The conversation is that there might be a lawsuit between Oregon State and Washington State and the remainder of the PAC schools that have already left if the other schools are wanting to have a portion of that pot of money that is in the PAC coffers. The word is that the MWC president's committee is NOT against this move. There is a lot of things to discuss with the different bowl games that the PAC has agreements with and considering that ESPN owns the bowl games now (or most of them), having an agreement with the new PAC would be good for them and good for us. The figure for the TV pact (CBS and FOX) is the $10 million that has already been mentioned, but there is discussion that ESPN would also be involved in the TV deal which might give additional amounts. From what I have heard the real question is how the money that is in the PAC now is divided. There is discussion that the MWC schools might be paid something for giving up the MWC and entering the PAC, but that the lion share of the money would go to Oregon State and Washington State. Also, from what I have heard, the deal of Oregon State and Washington State "waiting" to form a PAC conference two years from now, is DOA, there are way too many issues that make that not a viable avenue to take. I am most pumped to think that Gloria Navarez would be the PAC commissioner. I am for this as I do think it is the best way forward for Wyoming and the MWC. More money and exposure.

P.S. - We might all need to buy the ESPN app......just a suggestion if ESPN decides to do business with the MWC/PAC. Also, for all of those people that might want the MWC name to stay around, we might not have anything to say about it, as it might be a legal requirement that would make keeping the PAC money in the conference so OSU and WSU will have control over it.

P.S. - The AAC is not talking with OSU or WSU and they have made good their statement about not looking west, but looking within their area, and it has been mentioned that the AAC is in discussions with West Point and within the next couple of weeks Army will be announcing that they are moving into the AAC conference.

Boise game

Thinking about taking the family and making the trip to Boise this year for the game. I am sure some of you have made that trek before.

  • Is it best to get tickets from the UW ticket office so we can sit with other Pokes fans? Obviously, we want to avoid the Boise students with two young kids with us.
  • Anyone happen to know the exact section the UW ticket office tickets are in? That way I can compare that to available tickets on Stubhub or even the Boise website?
  • Hotel suggestions?

I realize Boise isn't the best "tourist" town, but my the wife and I have always talked about going to one road game per season and we finally want to actually do it.

Would appreciate any and all information anyone can provide.

Thanks and GO POKES!!!

Josh Allen / Stefon Diggs

Pretty scathing commentary from Jason Whitlock on Josh Allen and his work ethic.

IMO, The AFC East will be one the toughest, most competitive division (top-to-bottom) in the NFL this year (along with the NFC East, who plays the AFC East this year). There will be a lot of pressure with a nationally televised division game in week 1.

Texas Tech enters the 2023 season ranked No. 24 in the nation in the Preseason USA Today/Coaches Poll and is receiving votes in the Preseason Associated Press Media Poll. Developing the Best Players in Football, Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes

The two football programs playing Saturday can make the case that they are among the best in college football at developing great players.

Prime examples of that are two of the elite quarterbacks playing in the NFL today are former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen and former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Allen was selected seventh overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Mahomes was picked 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

How can we beat Texas Tech?

On defense, there is not going to be any mystery as to what Texas Tech is going to do on offense. I believe that the Poke's defense cannot play a bend-but-do-not-bend type of defense, they will eat us alive. This type of defense will allow yardage and keep our defense on the field for a long time. We will have to play assignment defense really well. Bohl has said that they will be trying to move their QB around and make him make poor passes. Putting pressure on their offense will mean that we will have to beat them at a one-on-one at times and blitz some and disguise them well, because if they catch us in a blitz without proper coverage, they will take it to the house.

On offense, we have to, I say it again, we have to mix it up and move the down markers. We have to have both the run game and pass game working well. Whatever happens we have to win the TO battle. With Texas Tech a takeover on downs is a turnover. So if we constantly go 4 and out, it will have to count as a TO. The Pokes feel competent with their run game and while that may be true, we have to gouge them enough with our run so we are not left with a 3rd and long on a regular basis. We will have to score and score often. Bohl's offense has to show if it built to use up the clock as it has been for years now or is it actually built to score?

I want the Pokes to win in the worst way, but then I think of Bohl's offense and my smile leaves me.

Revamped expectations

I know I originally was in the 10-2 camp, but I think this team has the make-up and leadership to genuinely accomplish it, and quite possibly even go 11-1. We will have a better gauge of ourselves after Texas I'm sure, but if we can give them a game I am looking for the magical season we have all been looking for.
