Coach Sawvel

It would be asinine at this point in time to make any prediction as far as how Coach Sawvel will do at UW. I have become somewhat rejuvenated as to my outlook for UW football.

I for one am happy that a change has been made. I have the utmost respect for Coach Bohl and I truly do wish to say thank you to him for his solid hand in leading the football program to a much sounder situation than the way it was 10 years ago. I also wish to say thank you in that he has given so much of his own time and energy to the program and enjoy whatever you decide to do next in your life.

But I do feel that there are a few advantages for Coach Sawvel, he is very familiar with the MW conference and the schools in it and knows what it takes to win here. A new coach from another part of the country would have to learn all of these valuable things that Sawvel already knows. Also Sawvel is very well familiar of course with the other coaches on the staff and so that should be a smooth transition. I like the way that he described what type of offense that he wanted to see, and that is one that can pass on any down at any point in time. I was also struck by the description of the player's response when Sawvel was named as the new HC. We all hope of course that Coach Sawvel will be successful and as he said, his priority is to have these young men get their degrees and win a MWC championship.

I feel much better now about the bowl game, not for the game that we got sent to, that dog has been beaten to death. But about the game itself, it doesn't hurt that Toledo has lost so many important pieces in the team, but I do feel there will be a special emphasis for the Wyoming players to win this game, as those immortal words were spoken so many years ago, "Win one for the Gipper!" but now it will be, "Win one for the tough as boot leather coach"!

Go Pokes!

Good list of student athletes walking the stage tomorrow

Two comments from looking at the list, I see that Shae Suiaunoa will be receiving a degree. I heard today that Shae will be back next year to play football. Perhaps I'm late to the party on this news. Fantastic news.

Iris Tsafara is listed under the women's basketball team. She was at a game last year when the women were recognized for the 2022 MWC tournament title. She was included with the women on the floor. I never did here the story on her transfer and subsequently not playing. I know she was recovering from an injury and surgery (ACL I believe). Anyways, congrats to her for getting her degree here at UW.

Athletic on the Arizona Bowl

The Athletic ranked each of the 41 bowls. Here are the bowl rankings for the MWC teams that are playing:

6th - Guaranteed Rate Bowl (UNLV)
13th - Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl (Wyo)
21st - Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl (AFA)
22nd - Isleta New Mexico Bowl (Fresno)
24th - Starco Brands LA Bowl (Boise State)
26th - Easy Post Hawaii Bowl (SJSU)
39th - Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (USU)

There is an additional article where their staff pick the winners of the games. Five of the seven pick the Pokes to win the game. The recent players entering the portal probably have a lot to do with the Pokes being the favorite, IMO.

We must take a close look at what schools are teaching.....

From a recent study:

"Half of young Americans are either unsure of the Nazi Holocaust’s authenticity or outright believe it to be a “myth,” according to a recent survey that reveals a worrying trend in the U.S. across the younger generation.

One in five young Americans believe the Nazi Holocaust to be a “myth,” according to the survey.

A YouGov/The Economist poll revealed concerning levels of Holocaust ignorance among young Americans, with roughly 20 percent of 18–29-year-olds believing the horrific tragedy — the systematic genocide of six million Jews and millions of other victims of Nazism — to be a myth, even higher than the eight percent in the 30–44 age group."

In talking about where Taylor ended up, meaning Vandy, supposedly it is a highly rated academic institution like Northwestern.....but not as good. They do have a highly rated medical school, but like many institutions of so-called, "higher learning" nowadays you have to really take a close look at exactly what they are getting from these schools. When a healthy percentage of young people think that the Holocaust was a myth, you have to take a close look, and not just blindly accept a diploma from these schools.

At this time I could not in all good conscience recommend any one to go to the Ivy League, as this one comedian most appropriately called it, "The Poison Ivy League". These graduates from those schools are not welcome in some of the law offices in America and other business' are beginning to shun Ivy League diplomas, they certainly aren't what they used to be, and they have no one but themselves to blame.

How anyone of any good conscience call the Holocaust a myth is troubling, but that is all part of the "indoctrination theory" that has been instituted at many schools in America, they don't want people to really think for themselves, they just want good little warriors full of hatred that the professors indoctrinate them with!

I am sure there are some professors at UW that believe in the "indoctrination theory" of teaching, but I hope that they are few and far between!!!!!!!!!!! My experience at UW was excellent and I hope that you people that go to UW can still count on getting a good education, because if UW was like Penn. or Harvard or MIT I would be the first to say, no to sending any young person there. At this point in time, enrollment in higher education is falling, and enrollment in more trade type of schools is growing because universities and colleges have handed out so many useless degrees over the years, like a master's degree in Oriental basket weaving.....

Mahomes...

I was traveling for work today and I when I checked in on the board I was surprised no one had commented on what a fool Mahomes acted after the game yesterday. Both he and Reid embarrassed themselves with their comments. I heard there where 4 other times during the game that Toney lined up offsides. Anyway, one thing is for sure - the NFL has an officiating problems. Too much inconsistency from game to game.

Pokes in the NFL (Week #14)

Pokes in the Pros: Week 14

Any number of statistics are recorded during a National Football League game. From tackles to completions to quarterback hits, many things are documented in 60 minutes of football action.

So if Coach Sawvel goes .500 in the first five years...

…does that mean he’s kept the program stable? Did Dave Christensen get canned too early before he could make the program stable? I chuckle a bit when I read posts stating how Bohl brought “stability” to the program. In Dave Christensen’s five years he went 27-35 overall compared to Bohl’s 28-25. Bohl did him three games better in conference play though, going 19-21 to DC’s 16-23. So apparently three games separated “program in shambles” necessitating a firing---so we could bring in a new guy and develop a stable foundation who escaped the ax.

Starting to wonder if Sawvel wins 9 games next year, maybe Bohl should get the credit.

Perhaps if we had kept DC around for another five years he too could have (like Bohl did) go 32-25 overall and 18-20 in conference play-- and brought stability to the program. Really lay a foundation. We’ll never know, but the definition of “solid foundation” has taken on a whole new meaning in recent days. We’re really now saying 32-25 overall and 18-20 in conference in the last five years is foundational stuff; I guess it is then....beating Toledo will probably change the term again.

A lot of narratives being pushed by UW and "company men" that seem like they're trying too hard. Much of the praise directed toward Bohl seems to be everywhere except the football field. I’m just glad the AD made a bold move and walked down the hall to find his next head coach.

Bohl recruited well on defense, misused Josh Allen, recruited Brian Hill, Curtis Granderson, Logan Wilson and beat up CSU(which probably played a not-so insignificant factor in his longevity). I wanted him extended after the one and only Boise win.

I also remember a $hitload of injuries, (is Sean Chambers walking without a boot yet?), the home losses to New Mexico and Hawaii in 2021, and of course the call vs. Boise St. last year at home.

Can’t and won’t buy the stability talk. One can also claim correctly that he enjoyed the grace of an ineffective AD who chose to retain a .500 coach for 10 years rather than take a risk and aspire to higher goals.

Good luck to the new guy though…by the new standards, he should have a decent shot at success.

Transfer portal remarkably quiet for UW so far

With the portal officially opening today, I'm a little surprised we haven't heard more about UW players leaving yet. I know there are a couple out there, but nothing like the last couple years.

Maybe indicates that players are getting wise to the fact that the portal rarely works out in their favor, and/or that Bohl and staff are doing a better job with retention?

The rabbit hole called UW athletics...

I am serious as a heart attack, I am going to think long and hard about pouring more money down the rabbit hole called UW athletics. We have a tone deaf AD , and a broad range of under performing athletic programs and an administration that doesn't care and doesn't want to hear anything. They are long at wanting to get into your pockets but short on producing conference championships. I have poured a lot of money into supporting athletic programs over the years, but like many others I have areas in my life; church, family and hobbies that I could get more enjoyment and reward for directing my money towards. Since the administration doesn't listen to people like me, and doesn't care, why should I continue to support people like this?
