LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 19, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowboys will wrap up non-conference play on Wednesday facing off against Saint Mary’s in the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Ariz. It will mark the second-straight neutral site game for the Cowboys in an NBA Arena.



Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelley will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.



Chuckie Kempf will be on the call on ESPN+ with Dan Muller as the analyst.



About The Teams

The Cowboys head into the contest with a 5-6 overall record after falling to Dayton in the United Center on Saturday by a score of 66-49. Wyoming is averaging 73.6 points per game on the season and is allowing 69.6 points per game. The Poke are shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from behind the arc. Opponents are shooting 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from deep. Wyoming is recording 11.3 turnovers per game and have 10 or ewer in three-straight games. Wyoming ranks No. 40 in the nation in turnovers per game and No. 27 in three pointers per game at 9.7.



St. Mary’s was riding a modest three-game winning streak until Sunday when it fell at home to Colorado State. The Gaels currently own a 9-4 record, which includes a victory over No. 22 San Diego State. St. Mary’s is coming off a season where it advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 5 seed. The Gaels were selected to finish second in the West Coast Conference preseason poll. The Gaels average 68.8 points per game and only allow foes to score 57.7 points per contest. St. Mary’s hits 45.4 percent of its field-goal attempts, which includes a 37.8 percent success rate from 3-point land. The Gaels’ opponents make 39.9 percent of their shots from the floor and 33.2 percent of their attempts from deep.





About The Players

The Cowboys are led in scoring by Noah Reynolds at 14.1 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in four-straight games. He is shooting 54 percent from the field to rank third in the Mountain West. Hunter Maldonado is adding 12.8 points per game and 3.9 assists along with four rebounds. Hunter Thompson leads the team with 4.9 rebounds per game along with 7.3 points per game. Brendan Wenzel adds 9.4 points per night and is second on the team at 4.7 rebounds per game.



St. Mary’s enjoys a balanced scoring attack led by Aiden Mahaney who averages 13.8 points per game. Alex Ducas adds 13.5 points per contest. Mitchell Saxen leads the charge on the glass, collecting a team-best 8.5 rebounds to go alongside his 12.4 points per game. Logan Johnson also averages in double-figures, chipping in 10.3 points and a team-high 3.6 assists per contest.



About The Series

Wyoming and St. Mary’s have met twice before with each team winning on its home floor. Both matchups occurred in the 1950s with the most recent one happening in 1956 when the Gaels walked away with a 62-57 victory in Morage.

The Cowboys begin Mountain West Conference play next week. Wyoming travels to Fresno State on Wednesday for a 9 p.m. contest inside the Save Mart Center.
