Cowboys Face Loyola Marymount in Cancun Challenge Championship on Wednesday​

Contest Slated for 6:30 p.m. MT start on CBS Sports Network​

CANCUN, Mexico (Nov. 26, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowboys will play for the Cancun Challenge Championship on Wednesday facing Loyola Marymount at 6:30 p.m. MT at the Hard Rock Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Wyoming earned a comeback win over Tulane on Tuesday evening.

The contest against the Lions will be televised on CBS Sports Network with Brett Dolan on the call with Chris Walker Analyzing the action.

Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelly will be on the call alongside Kevin McKinney.

What A Comeback: The Cowboys trailed by 16 points with 13:58 remaining in the second half and would tie the contest with under a minute left. The Pokes would then take the lead with a three-pointer from Touko Tainamo off a pass from Jordan Nesbitt with nine seconds remaining. It was the largest comeback since coming back from 17 down against San Jose State last season on Jan. 2. It was the third largest comeback since 2016 for the Pokes.

Wicks Gets Win in 100th Career Game: The Cowboys earned the win on Tuesday as it marked the 100th game for Sundance Wicks as a head coach. He has won 53 games in his career with stops at Missouri Western. Green Bay and Wyoming.

Henry in Double Figures in Return: Forward Cole Henry recorded 10 points for the Cowboys against Tulane. He missed the last game with an injury. It was his second double-figure scoring game this season and the ninth of his career. He had 12 points in the season opener for the Cowboys.

Tainamo is a Dynamo: Forward Touko Tainamo recorded a season-high 13 points against Tulane. He was 5-of-8 from the field, which was also a season best. He hit the game winning shot floor the Pokes with nine seconds left. He has scored in double figures in 55 games in his career in college basketball.

Back in the Groove for Agbim: Guard Obi Agbim did not lead the Pokes in scoring against Southeastern Louisiana for the only time this season. He returned back to his ways against Tulane with a team and game-high 18 points. He leads the team and ranks amongst the top scorers inn the MW at 17.5 points per game.

Tough on the Glass: The Cowboys once again dominated the glass in the win over Tulane. The Cowboys held a 44-34 advantage with 11 offensive rebounds. Wyoming leads the MW in rebounds this season and has had double-digit advantage on the glass in four games this season. Wyoming is outrebounding opponents this season 266-198 and are +11.3 on the glass this season. UW has grabbed 40 or more rebounds in a game three times this season.

Getting Defensive Again: The Cowboys traveled the defense against Tulane allowing the Green Wave to only 33.9 percent shooting in the contest and only 25 percent in the second half. UW has held five of their six opponents to under 40 percent from the field this season.

Playing for a Championship: The Cowboys will play for a Championship on Wednesday. It will be the first time the Pokes have played for a title in an in season tournament at a neutral site since the 2017-18 season at the Cayman Islands Classic falling to Cincinnati. Wyoming played for the title last season at the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational but fell to host UTEP in the title.

Against LMU: The Cowboys and Lions will meet for the eighth time on Wednesday. It will be the first meeting since 2009 and will be the first meeting on a neutral floor since the two teams met at the Great Alaska Shootout in 2002. The Pokes are 6-1 all-time against the Lions and are 3-1 on neutral floors.
