To hear Greg Yess say it, he believes his son Wyatt Yess was on Wyoming's radar, but Saturday's AAU showcase in Dallas kicked the Cowboys' recruitment of Wyatt into high gear.

"It was great to see Wyoming at our game this weekend," the elder Yess said. "There are two reasons you play at that level, to get better at basketball and to get exposure. To have a program as developed as Wyoming watch you is great.

"I think they came to watch one of the kids we were playing against and then they came back and watched our other games this weekend. That led to some discussions and an offer and that was really exciting."

The younger Yess is a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward in the Recruiting Class of 2017. As a sophomore last season Yess averaged 16.2 points, and 9.9 rebounds a game.

"He is a very team-first player who is good at distributing the ball from the post," Greg said. "He started as a tall kid with post up moves and the mid-ranger jumper and the three-pointers have come this year. Now he is more of a stretch four, but we have him play the three, four, or five in summer league since he can defend players on the perimeter."

The Parkway West prep holds scholarship offers from Saint Louis University and Wyoming. Greg Yess, who is also an assistant coach on Wyatt's AAU team, Gateway Basketball Club, said the recruiting process is just getting started for his son.

"We are on the front-end of his recruitment," Greg said. "He isn't allowed to have contact with coaches until sometime in September and he is looking forward to that because he wants a relationship with a coach. He wants to play somewhere for four years and graduate and look back at his career and feel like he was part of a network and a legacy. He isn't the transfer type of kid so it is important that the fit is right."

Greg said he and his son were able to follow Wyoming through the Mountain West Conference and NCAA Tournaments this year and have seen videos about the University and the basketball program as well.

"The whole is bigger than the sum of the parts," Greg said when asked his feelings on the Wyoming program. "There is not a lot of one-on-one going on there, but they win when they play defense, excel in the transition game and work together. That is the style of play we have on our team and the style Wyatt is comfortable with."
