Interesting article from The Athletic how even ESPN has gotten tired of every one of their football broadcasts being focused on the four or five teams that are in the NCAA Playoff hunt and are looking to ease off that philosophy this coming season.
Instead of a three hour GameDay show I wish ESPN would just have a 30 minute show that is solely G5 focused. Any big G5 game(s) that has playoff or Top 25 implications could also be mentioned in the overall GameDay broadcast.
Lee Fitting said he’s been part of several conversations this offseason with various stakeholders and within ESPN about balancing its college football coverage better. “Of course we’re going to lead with the Playoff,” Fitting said. “But let’s try to raise the pedestal that all the other games are on.
“It is my belief that the college football fan is different than most other sports fans, in that they still want to hear about their team, regardless of where they fall in the national picture.”
