Initial communications to faculty and staff started this afternoon.
Presentation to faculty/staff: Today July 13, 2021
Presentation to Board of Trustees: Tomorrow July 14, 2021
Several Provost-appointed committees created (75 days to report)
Committee Reports and feedback due: October 1, 2021
Any changes necessary to recommendations developed
Final Recommendations: BoT November meeting: November 17-19, 2021
Proposal is to Eliminate 10 Dept Heads, Combine some and eliminate others.
A few years ago I was surprised to see the College of Engineering and Applied Science had the largest number of Scholarship Athletes. In my view these changes are not good, especially what I see as the dilution of two foundational engineering programs, chemical and electrical. It will be interesting to learn how this "recommendation" (or is it a done deal) was developed.
Headline Changes: College of Arts & Sciences - the "Science" portion moves to the new College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Geology & Geophysics - Moves to Engineering
Physics & Astronomy - Moves to Engineering
Mathematics and Statics - Moves to Engineering
Chemical Engineering - disbanded to be combined with the Chemistry Dept. in a new Dept
Electrical Engineering - disbanded - to be combined with Computer Science
C0mputer Science - Disbanded to be joined with EE.
Gone:"
German, French and Secondary Education BA programs in Spanish, French & German,
Masters (Graduate) Programs in Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology
MBA Finance, MBA Energy, PhD - Statistics.
