I do not live in Wyoming thus, my input on the matching funds for UW Athletics has less impact - I do however donate at a level to receive state matching funds in academics. I can state that if I am fortunate enough in the future to donate to UW at the matching funds level in BOTH Academics and Athletics I will do so. I can state that the state match in Academic based donations played a big role in convincing me and "da boss" to donate a that level.

I sometimes get the feel that those opposed to the Athletics match are opposed to UW athletics in general based on the assumption that the UW program is just like those programs with problems that they read about in the media. In those programs students are simply there to play sports and hope to make the pros, they are for the most part students in name only. Does this happen at UW? Rarely is my opinion. Student-Athletes at UW take on challenging majors - perhaps more so than any other University in America. What College has the most Student Athletes at enrolled at UW. Answer - The College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Is there another program at Division 1 that can make this claim? I doubt it. UW is different, we are University with an Athletic program, we are not an Athletic Program with a University.

For those of you contacting your Wyoming legislators this would be a positive point to make that the UW Athletic program needs support and strengthening by continuing the matching funds.
