Waylee - 899 yards for season. Average 82 yards per game. 5 td's. ( Stats from his playing time at Northern Illinois.)
McNeeley - 356 yards for season. Average 40 yards per game. 1 td.
James - 346 yards for season. Average 43 yards per game. 0 td's.

With Waylee hurt & out at least first two to three games minimum,. Who has the ability and best chances to step up and be
the next Mr. Running Back given the limited game experience and over all age of the group?

Las Vegas, Nev. (July 19, 2022) -- The Mountain West Conference released on Wednesday its 2023 Preseason Predicted Order of Finish and Preseason All-Conference Team as selected by Mountain West media members. Wyoming was picked to finish sixth in the 12-team Mountain West Conference and five Cowboys were named to the Preseason MW First Team led by junior linebacker Easton Gibbs, who was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The announcement kicked off 2023 Mountain West Football Media Days being held at the Circa Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.



Joining Gibbs on the MW First Team were: junior defensive tackle Jordan Bertagnole, graduate offensive tackle Frank Crum, junior defensive end DeVonne Harris and junior place-kicker John Hoyland. Wyoming’s five selections were the most of any team, followed by four selections each for Air Force, Colorado State and San Diego State.



Gibbs and Hoyland were First Team All-MW selections at the conclusion of the 2022 season in voting by MW head coaches and media. Harris was a ‘22 Honorable Mention All-Mountain West honoree.



Gibbs becomes the first MW Preseason Defensive Player of the Year since former Cowboy safety Andrew Wingard was the preseason selection prior to both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The most recent Cowboy to earn any of the Preseason Player of the Year honors was former place-kicker Cooper Rothe, who was named the Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year prior to the 2019 season.



Wednesday’s Mountain West Media Day schedule will feature two football student-athletes from each Mountain West school being interviewed by MW television partners CBS Sports Network, FOX Sports and the Mountain West Network, as well as media members from around the conference. On Thursday, all 12 head coaches from each Mountain West school will take center stage.



Wyoming is being represented by head coach Craig Bohl, junior linebacker Gibbs and graduate quarterback Andrew Peasley.

I recently suffered through a shopping event with the family and briefly saw through a sports bar window highlights of the 1984 Holiday Bowl where BYU beat Michigan and that led to BYU’s national championship. That led me to review Wyoming’s season that year and I was struck at the similarity of recent results:

Wyoming went 2-2 in OOC losing both away contests at bigger schools (Huskers and Beavers) while winning both home games against lesser opponents (both South Dakota schools). Had some good wins in beating rival CSU and beating AFA and Utah. Lost some frustrating ones....a close one on the island (three points) and lost by three at then #5 BYU. Looked like they would finish with seven wins but instead fell to a winless UTEP team the last game of the season and finished 6-6. With a little luck and not tanking the last game against a hapless opponent, it could have been a nine win season........

Had a stud future NFL talent in Novacek who struggled to prove his true worth in Kincaid’s run heavy offense (that averaged about 18 passes a game) but who did manage to set an NCAA single season average per reception (22.6 yards) his senior year (1984).

Such a typical Wyoming season.

Former Cowboy basketball player, Kenny Smith's daughter plays for the US soccer team. She scored the first goal for the women's team in the WC today and was involved in all 3 of the US goals. She was named player of the match. Sophia grew up in Windsor, attending Fossil Ridge. Played soccer at Stanford, winning a national championship while there. I thought you would like to know of the Wyo connection and the success of a young athlete just a few miles south of us.

Laramie, Wyo. (July 17, 2023) -- The University of Wyoming has another early kickoff time on its home schedule for the 2023 college football season, as its Nov. 18 home game versus the University of Hawai’i has been set for Noon, Mountain Time from Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium. It was also announced that the game will be televised by Spectrum of Hawai’i. The Wyoming-Hawai’i game will honor First Responders.



The Hawai’i kickoff time is the sixth of seven Wyoming home games that are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. or earlier for the coming season. Wyoming home games versus Portland State on Saturday, Sept. 9 and versus New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 30 will both kick off at 2 p.m., M.T. The Pokes will host Appalachian State in a 5 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 23. UW will open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Texas Tech in a 5:30 p.m. nationally-televised game on CBS. On Friday night, Nov. 3, Wyoming will host rival Colorado State in the “Border War” at 6 p.m.



One Remaining Home Game Time and Television Information Yet to be Announced

Game time and television information for one remaining Wyoming home game will be announced in the future. That game is the Saturday, Oct. 7 home game versus Fresno State. The game time for the Fresno State game will be announced by FOX Networks 12 days prior to the game.
