Glad to give credit when credit is due. Overall this may have been the best game the Pokes have played on both sides of the ball. The offense was varied, the offensive line manhandled USU and Peasley burned them through the air. I give Polasek credit for changing things up because he had USU eating out of his hand. Great to see James light em’ up and Swen do his usual head banging. The defense was great and held an excellent running back in check as well as the young QB who could have spoiled our performance had he been able to escape the pocket. The defense was relentless!

Having a QB that never gets too up or down and throws a nice ball opens everything up. The tight ends were active and we exploited the middle of the field which should delight many of us. At the beginning of the season Bohl was right when he said we’ll have several new faces worth talking about as the season progresses. This team is young and hungry and it looks like Bohl is allowing Polasek to call his game more than he let Vigen. Bohl‘s off season epiphany has contributed to these pups performance. Absolutely no question about it that we have talent on both sides of the ball. Now just beat Hawaii and CSU into submission and set the table for a packed house when Boise State comes to town.

How many MW teams will get bowl eligible?

*AF has 5 wins- plays Army, NM, Sheep, SDSU- a lock to get to 6 probably 8
*Boise has 5 wins- plays Sheep, BYU, Nev, UW, Utah St- a lock to get to 6, at least 8.
*Sheep- has 2 wins- plays Boise, San Jose, UW, AF, NM. Can't see any way to 6.
*Fresno- has 3 wins- plays SDSU, Hawaii, UNLV, NV and UW. Should beat NV and Hawaii. Tough games for the other 3. Which Fresno team shows up- the one who lost to UConn or beat San Jose. Toss-up
*Hawaii- has 2 wins- plays UW, Fresno, Utah St, UNLV, SJSU. Can't see 4 wins there
*Nevada- has 2 wins- plays SJSU, Boise, Fresno, UNLV. No way they go 4-0
*NM- has 2 wins- plays Utah St, AF, SDSU, Sheep. No way they go 4-0
*SDSU- has 4 wins- plays Fresno, UNLV, SJSU, NM, AF. NM is only gimme. Probably squeezes at least 1 more W.
*SJSU- has 4 wins but lost a good chance for a 5th when NM St game was postponed- plays Nev, Sheep, SDSU, USU, Hawaii. I think fairly good they get to 6.
*UNLV- has 4 wins- plays SDSU, Fresno, Hawaii, Nevada. Decent chance to get 6. Probably has to win the last 2 to get there
*Utah St- has 3 wins- plays NM, Hawaii, SJSU and Boise. 2 wins probable but tough to see 3
*UW- has 5 wins- plays Hawaii, Sheep, Boise, Fresno. Should get at least 2 if not more.
I see AF, Boise, UW, SJSU as locks to get to 6. Fresno, SDSU and UNLV will have a tougher road with Aztecs having the best chance.

Media rights and late kick off

It's amazing to me that we don't have a provision in the media rights deal protecting schools from bad kick off times if the games aren't on the first tier networks.

I could see kicking off at 7:45 to be on FS1. For context, FS2 is available in about 30 million FEWER homes than FS1. Average FS2 viewership each night is about 16,000 homes.

For that, we kick off the Homecoming game at almost 8pm instead of on a perfect fall afternoon.

Good riddance to that shit Thompson.

Official Utah State at Wyoming game thread

Utah State visits the Pokes in Laramie.

Kickoff: 7:45 p.m. MT from War Memorial Stadium

Weather at kickoff: 50° F. and cloudy with the winds out of the South at 10 mph. Zero percent chance of precipitation forecast.

About the game: This marks the 72nd game between the Aggies of Utah State and the Cowboys. This game is also Wyoming's 97th Homecoming. At stake is the Bridger Rifle and a victory in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference. The Aggies come into the game with a 3-4 overall record and 2-2 in the MWC. Wyoming's season total is 4-3 with an identical 2-2 record in conference play.

Bowl eligibility count

Need 84 teams

Eligible - 16
5 - 24
4 - 24
3 - 36
2 or less - 37
6 loss teams - 4

AFA is the only 5 win MWC team. I predict that 6 teams become eligible:

AFA
BSU
SJSU
UNLV
FSU
Wyoming

There are 5 guaranteed bowls for MWC teams and a 6th for the Frisco bowl if the AAC or CUSA don’t have extra teams.

Bottom line - best records get the invites and a 6-6 MWC team could be first out if there are more than 84 teams eligible. 6 more regular season weeks to go.
