Laramie, Wyo. (May 31, 2023) -- The Mountain West Conference and its television partners, CBS Sports Networks and FOX Sports Networks, announced on Wednesday the 2023 Mountain West football television schedule. The Wyoming Cowboys will be televised on national TV nine times.



Highlighting the schedule will be a nationally-televised game on CBS to kick off the season vs. Big 12 opponent Texas Tech on Sept. 2 and a Friday night “Border War” versus Colorado State on Friday, Nov. 3.



CBS and CBS Sports Network Televised Games

Wyoming’s season opener on Saturday, Sept. 2 will be televised nationally on CBS -- one of only three MW games to be carried on CBS during the 2023 season. That game will kick off from Wyoming’s War Memorial Stadium at 5:30 p.m., Mountain Time.



Wyoming will have four of its games televised on CBS Sports Network, including home games versus Appalachian State on Saturday, Sept.23 at 5 p.m. and Colorado State on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. The “Border War” vs. CSU is UW’s lone home game on a Friday night this season.



The Cowboys two road games on CBS Sports Network will be a Saturday, Oct. 14 game at Air Force at 5 p.m. and a Saturday, Nov. 25 game at Nevada at 7 p.m., M.T. (6 p.m., Pacific Time).



FOX Sports Network Televised Games

Three Cowboy games will be televised by FOX Sports Networks. UW’s home game against Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 7 and its road game at Boise State on Saturday, Oct. 28 will be televised by one of the FOX Sports Networks. The exact FOX Sports Network and the game times for those two games will be announced by the Mountain West during the season.



The third Wyoming game to be televised by FOX Sports Networks will be a road game at UNLV on Friday, Nov. 10. The game will be televised by FS1 at 8:45 p.m., M.T. (7:45 p.m., Pacific Time). It is the only Wyoming road game on a Friday night this coming season.



Road Game at Texas to be Televised on the Longhorn Network

UW’s lone non-conference road game will be televised by Big 12 television partner the Longhorn Network. That game will kick off at 6 p.m., Mountain Time (7 p.m., Central Time) from Austin, Texas.



Future Game Times and Television Information to be Released in the Future

Game time and television information for three Wyoming home games will be announced in the near future. Those three games include the Saturday, Sept. 9 home game versus Portland State, the Saturday, Sept. 30 home game vs. New Mexico and the Saturday, Nov. 18 home game against Hawai’i.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (May 19,2023) – The State of Wyoming in a joint effort with University of Wyoming Athletics department announced Friday a craft beer collaboration with Black Tooth Brewing Company in Sheridan. Wyoming Golden Ale will feature two can designs, rotated seasonally, a State of Wyoming branded design featuring the famous Bucking Horse & Rider and a University of Wyoming branded design featuring Pistol Pete and other key elements of the university brand.



Fans now have an opportunity to collect various University of Wyoming branded products with UW also having a Steamboat logo on Bud Light cans this fall as part of its long-term partnership with Anheuser-Busch.



“We are very excited for this collaboration with Black Tooth Brewing,” University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman said. “The product and packaging of Wyoming Golden Ale is special and unique that will highlight this great state. We are very thankful for this collaboration along with our partnership with Anheuser-Busch to give our fans a Wyoming branded drink at their local stores and at our athletics events.”



Wyoming Golden Ale is a light bodied, straw-colored beer that is complimented by subtle fruity notes reminiscent of pineapple. Laramie, Wyo. (May 26, 2023) -- Athlon Sports has named its 2023 Preseason All-America and All-Conference teams and 13 Wyoming Cowboys were recognized led by junior place-kicker John Hoyland, who was named to Athlon's Second Team All-America Team and First Team All-Mountain West Team.



Hoyland was one of only three players from non-Power Five conference schools and the only Mountain West player to be named to the First or Second Team, joining UConn offensive lineman Christian Haynes and Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson on the Second Team.



There are five Wyoming Cowboys who joined Hoyland on the All-Mountain West First Team. Those five include graduate offensive tackle Frank Crum and junior running back Harrison Waylee, who transferred to Wyoming in January from Northern Illinois. Junior defensive tackle Jordan Bertagnole, junior middle linebacker Easton Gibbs and graduate nose tackle Cole Godbout represent the Cowboy defense on the First Team.



Three Cowboys are on Athlon's All-Mountain West Second Team, including junior defensive end DeVonne Harris, junior offensive center Nofoafia Tulafono and graduate tight end Treyton Welch.



Sophomore defensive end Braden Siders is the only Wyoming Cowboy on the Third Team, while three Cowboys are on the Fourth Team. Those three are junior free safety Wyett Ekeler, graduate punter Clayton Stewart and junior linebacker Shae Suiaunoa.



Wyoming has seven defensive players on the four teams, including its entire front four in Bertagnole (defensive tackle), Godbout (nose tackle), Harris (defensive end) and Siders (defensive end). Both linebackers -- Gibbs and Suiaunoa -- and free safety Ekeler round out the UW defensive honorees.



Offensively, the Pokes have four representatives in Crum (offensive tackle), Tulafono (center), Waylee (running back) and Welch (tight end).



On special teams both place-kicker Hoyland and punter Stewart were recognized.



Athlon's Second Team All-America Selection From Wyoming



John Hoyland made 22 of 25 field goals (88.0 percent) in 2022. In addition to leading the Mountain West and ranking No. 7 in the nation in field goals made at 1.69 per game. His 22 field goals set a new Wyoming single-season school record. He broke the record of former Cowboys Cory Wedel, who made 20 field goals in 1996, and J.D. Wallum, who made 20 in 2001. Hoyland's field-goal percentage of 88.0 percent in 2022 was No. 2 in the MW and No. 18 nationally. He made four field goals of over 50 yards in the 2022 season -- 51, 53, 53 and 55. His 55-yarder was tied for the fifth longest in the FBS last season and was the longest in the Mountain West last year. Hoyland was named a Semifinalist for the 2022 Lou Groza Award. He was named a 2022 PFF (Pro Football Focus) Second Team Mid-Season All-American. Hoyland was selected as the MW Special Teams Player of the Week three times last season.



Athlon's First Team All-Mountain West Selections From Wyoming

Jordan Bertagnole (Defensive Tackle) has started 21 of 30 career games at defensive tackle as a Cowboy entering his junior season. He recorded 51 total tackles, 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss in 11 games during the 2022 season. He was forced to miss the Boise State and Fresno State games late in the season due to injury, but returned for the Arizona Bowl. Bertagnole was also credited with four quarterback hurries and he forced two fumbles. A very disruptive force in the middle of the Cowboy defense, Bertagnole earned Second Team All-Conference honors from Phil Steele in 2022.



Frank Crum (Offensive Tackle) has started 36 of 43 career games at Wyoming. He will move to left tackle in 2023 after starting at right tackle the past four seasons. He has helped pave the way for three 1,000-yard rushing seasons by Cowboy running backs -- Xazavian Valladay (2019 and 2021) and Titus Swen (2022). Crum earned All-Conference honors in 2022 from both Pro Football Focus (Third Team) and Phil Steele (Fourth Team).



Easton Gibbs (Middle Linebacker) not only ranked No. 3 in the conference and 22nd nationally in tackles last season, at 9.3 tackles per game, but he recorded the first 100-tackle season of his career, with 121. He became only the 61st Cowboy in the 126-year history of Cowboy Football to record 100 tackles in a single season. Gibbs' 121 tackles ties him for the 18th best single-season tackle total in school history with former UW linebackers Bruce Mowry (1983) and Jim Talich (1997). Gibbs posted double figures in tackles in six games during the 2022 season. Gibbs was named to the First Team All-Mountain West team in voting by MW head coaches and media, and was selected First Team All-MW by Phil Steele.



Cole Godbout (Nose Tackle) entered the 2022 season as a leading All-Conference candidate and the leader of the UW defensive line as he had earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain West honors in 2021 from Mountain West head coaches and media. Godbout was outstanding in the first six games of the '22 campaign, recording 32 tackles, 11 quarterback hurries, 4.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. He suffered a foot injury against San Jose State that forced him to miss the final six regular-season games, before returning for the Arizona Bowl where he started and recorded his 33rd tackle of the season. He is poised for a big year in his final season for the Cowboys.



Harrison Waylee (Running Back) joins the Wyoming Football program as a proven FBS running back, transferring to UW from Northern Illinois University. As a sophomore in 2022, Waylee earned Third Team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) honors at running back in voting by MAC head coaches. He also was named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) Third Team All-MAC squad, while leading NIU in rushing with 899 yards.



Athlon's Second Team All-Mountain West Selections From Wyoming



DeVonne Harris led Wyoming in sacks (8.0) and was second in tackles for loss (13.0) as a sophomore. He ranked No. 8 in the Mountain West and No. 46 in the FBS in sacks, averaging 0.62 per game. In MW conference games only, Harris ranked No. 3 in tackles for loss (1.38 per game) and ranked No. 4 in sacks (0.88 per game). His season high in sacks was 3.0 versus Utah State, which tied for the fourth best single-game performance in the MW in 2022. For the season, he also had six quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and one fumble return, which he returned for 44 yards vs. Boise State. He was the sack leader of a Wyoming defensive unit that ranked No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 21 in the nation in sacks, averaging 2.85 per game. Harris received All-Conference recognition from Phil Steele (Fourth Team) and Mountain West head coaches and media (Honorable Mention) as a sophomore.



Nofoafia Tulafono started all 13 games for the Cowboys at center as a sophomore in 2022. He made all the offensive line calls for the Cowboys and in his first year as a starter Tulafono helped block for 1,000-yard rusher Titus Swen. Tulafono was named Second Team All-Mountain West Conference by Pro Football Focus (PFF) in 2022 and earned Fourth Team honors from Phil Steele.



Treyton Welch was the only Mountain West tight end to rank in the Top 10 in the MW in TD receptions last season, with five TDs. He tied for No. 4 in the Mountain West in TD receptions, with five total. Welch received an "A" grade from PFF (Pro Football Focus) for the 2022 season. He caught 22 passes for 308 yards, averaging 14.0 yards per reception. His best game of the season was in the Arizona Bowl vs. Ohio, catching five passes for 91 yards and 1 TD. His TD receptions last season went for: 14 yards vs. Air Force, 17 yards vs. Ohio, 19 yards at BYU, 29 yards at New Mexico and 47 yards at New Mexico. Welch was named First Team All-Mountain West in 2022 by Pro Football Focus (PFF), Third Team by Phil Steele and Honorable Mention by Mountain West head coaches and media.

One important date — not exactly a deadline per se, but a key marker — is June 30, 2023. If San Diego State were to try to leave the Mountain West after that date to join the Pac-12 for the summer of 2024, its exit fee (of about $17 million) would triple. So either the Pac-12 will make its long-awaited decision on the Aztecs by June 30, or the earliest San Diego State could compete in the Pac-12 would be fall 2025.

Laramie, Wyo. (May 2, 2023) -- The NCAA released the most recent Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) data on Tuesday, and University of Wyoming Athletics teams once again achieved exceptional APR scores.



The most recent Division I APR data is part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program. University of Wyoming Athletics teams received outstanding scores both for the most recent single year measured (2021-22) and for the most recent four-year period that includes the 2018-19 through 2021-22 academic years.



Nine UW Teams Earn Perfect Single-Year APR Scores of 1,000

The APR is the NCAA’s annual benchmark of academic achievement for Division I programs. A perfect score is 1,000. Nine of Wyoming’s 15 Cowboy and Cowgirl teams recorded perfect single-year APR scores of 1,000, including: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s track and field and women’s volleyball. For the purposes of the NCAA Division I APR calculations, indoor and outdoor track teams are combined into one team.



All Wyoming Teams Far Exceed NCAA Benchmark Score of 930

All of the University of Wyoming’s athletics teams once again far exceeded the 930 minimum four-year average benchmark set by the NCAA to qualify for competition at Division I Championships.



“Our student-athletes continue to excel academically, and we are extremely proud of their achievements,” said Tom Burman, University of Wyoming Athletics Director. “While these achievements begin and end with our student-athletes, there are a lot of other people who contribute to this success. Our Office of Academic Support in athletics is here to serve our student-athletes and help them navigate their academic pursuits. Our coaching staffs do an excellent job in both recruiting outstanding student-athletes and helping them balance their athletic and academic demands. And we are extremely grateful to the UW faculty for all they do in helping our student-athletes achieve their academic goals.”



Five Teams Achieve Perfect Multiyear Scores of 1,000

A total of five Wyoming Athletics teams also recorded a perfect multiyear score of 1,000 for the four-year period from 2018-19 through 2021-22. Those five teams are: women’s cross country, men’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s track and field and women’s volleyball.



For the 11th consecutive year, the Wyoming men’s golf team recorded a perfect multiyear score of 1,000. It was the third consecutive reporting period that both women’s cross country and men’s cross country achieved a perfect multiyear score of 1,000 and the women’s track and field and women’s volleyball teams earned perfect multi-year scores for the second consecutive reporting period.



Following closely behind the five UW programs that recorded perfect multiyear APR scores of 1,000 are all of Wyoming’s 10 other programs that posted multiyear scores well over the 930 benchmark. Those sports are: women’s basketball (996), women’s soccer (996), women’s golf (993), men’s track and field (993), women’s tennis (992), women’s swimming and diving (991), men’s swimming and diving (978), football (974), wrestling (971), and men’s basketball (959).



This year’s NCAA release does not include penalties, loss of access to postseason competition or public recognition of high-achieving teams as those elements of the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program remain suspended through spring 2023. Therefore, teams with APRs below 930 will not be subject to penalties or loss of access to postseason competition.



How the APR is Calculated

The APR scores are based on two factors: the retention rate of scholarship student-athletes and the academic eligibility of scholarship student-athletes.



The APR is calculated as follows:

•Each student-athlete receiving athletically-related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.



•A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.



•In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.



•Teams must earn a four-year average APR of 930 to compete in NCAA Division I Championships.



The NCAA’s APR data calculation was first implemented in the 2003-04 academic year.

Laramie, Wyo. (May 12, 2023) -- The University of Wyoming Athletics Department will honor the most recent group of student-athlete graduates on Friday, May 12 at its Spring Stole Ceremony. The by-invitation event will be held for the graduates, their families and friends at the UniWyo Federal Credit Union Sports Complex, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.



A total of 100 Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes are scheduled to graduate, with either their undergraduate or graduate degrees.



All 17 of Wyoming’s NCAA-sanctioned sports, along with members of UW’s Spirit Team and Rodeo team and a group of UW Athletics’ graduate assistants will be represented in this spring’s group of graduates.



University of Wyoming Director of Athletics Tom Burman will be addressing the graduates on Friday, as will UW Assistant A.D. for Academic Services Mattison Maisel. Cameron Murphy, a member of the men’s swimming and diving team and this past year’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President, will speak on behalf of this year’s student-athlete graduates.



“We are extremely proud to honor our most recent graduating student-athletes with this stole ceremony,” said Burman. “This is a special time of year for these young men and women as they reach their goal of achieving a college degree. It is rewarding to share in this celebration with them and their families.



“In addition to the large number of student-athletes receiving their bachelor’s degrees this weekend, many of our student-athletes who received extra years of eligibility due to COVID interrupting their college careers took advantage of that extra time to pursue graduate degrees. You will see several members of this graduating class of student-athletes receiving their graduate degrees this weekend. We as an athletics department are extremely proud of all our student-athletes’ academic accomplishments in addition to their athletic accomplishments. We wish them all the best in their futures and hope they will return often to the University of Wyoming and continue to be part of our athletics program as alumni.”



The tradition of presenting UW student-athlete graduates with graduation stoles at a special reception began with the spring semester of 2014 and has been held every semester since. The graduation stoles are provided to wear along with the graduation stole from each student-athlete’s college during graduation.



The UW Athletics’ graduation stole is white with the familiar Steamboat Bucking Horse and Rider emblem on the right-hand side of the stole and a “W Club” emblem on the left. Each graduating student-athlete will also receive a free “W Club” membership for the coming year. The “W Club” is the official organization for former Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes and coaches.



The 2023 spring commencement ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, May 13. LARAMIE, Wyo. (May 12,2023) – Local youth will have a chance to learn from the best of the best when the University of Wyoming men's basketball team hosts its 2023 summer camps. The Cowboys will provide instruction at two separate camps in June.

Head coach Jeff Linder along with his staff and Cowboy players will host their overnight camp on June 11-14 for boys' grades 7-12, commuter campers both boys and girls can also participate in grades K-12. The skills camp will be held June 5-7 running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for all boys and girls in grades K-12. All camps will be held in the Arena-Auditorium, UniWyo Sports Complex and War Memorial Fieldhouse in Laramie.

Laramie, Wyo. (May 8, 2023) -- The next time the Wyoming Cowboys take the field , they will be back on their home turf at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium, hosting Texas Tech on a new FieldTurf Vertex CORE surface on Sept. 2, 2023. Wyoming's new field will maintain its iconic Mountain design in the end zones.



The installation of the Vertex CORE system, a leading synthetic turf solution, represents War Memorial Stadium’s second consecutive FieldTurf surface, following an initial collaboration in 2013. The success of the first installation led to Wyoming choosing FieldTurf, a Tarkett Sports company, for its indoor practice facility in 2018. Sitting at an elevation of 7,220 feet, the Cowboys boast the country’s highest NCAA Division I football stadium, where they have won 66 percent of their home games in the stadium’s history.
