Quarterback

One thing about it, granted I know we appear to be pretty well set at quarterback, but I tell ya what there are going to be a whole bunch of quarterbacks in the portal with starting experience. Do we go for experience or continue to develop Svaboda, May and Anderson? Just topic for conversation.

Teams looking for a new coach as of 12/6/23

Boise State Spencer Danielson
Duke Manny Diaz
Fresno State - Apparently Tedford will return as HC
Houston Willie Fritz
James Madison Bob Chesney
Indiana Curt Cignetti
Louisiana-Monroe Bryant Vincent
Michigan State - Jonathan Smith
Middle Tennessee State Derek Mason
Mississippi State - Jeff Lebby
New Mexico Bronco Mendenhall
Nevada - Jeff Choate
Northwestern - David Braun
Oregon State - Trent Bray
San Diego State - Sean Lewis
Syracuse - Fran Brown
Texas A&M - Mike Elko
Troy
Tulane Jon Sumrall
UTEP Scotty Walden
Wyoming Jay Sawvel

I could see Gary Patterson going to Houston; fyi Craig Bohl would really be a good fit to build UTEP

Iowa v. Michigan...

This is what the inevitable result would be with a Bohl-coached football team playing at it's maximum peak. Avoid playing conference powerhouses in the regular season(OSU/Michigan), then when faced against one of those teams in a championship game, hope a solid defense can manage the damage into only a 26-0 result. Majority of UW fans would accept this.

The Craig Bohl philosophy requires a solid defense, a clock control, running-based offense, plus fortuitous breaks that allow you to outlast opponents--if you can avoid more prolific offenses. Get yourself in position to win something, and hope those breaks + a solid defense can make luck happen (Appalachian St.). But reality eventually happens. UW under Bohl will never have an offense that scares opponents. Iowa has survived doing this for a number of years, which is why Ferentz is still around. UW and it's fans look admirably on this, and it would be interesting to gauge the Hawkeye fan base to see how satisfied they are...

Vigen, Chambers fall to NDSU 35-34 in OT

Word on the street from local Cats fans is that they feel Chambers is a better passer than Mellot but Vigen sticks with Mellot as he is a dynamic runner. I find that odd since there were times Sean couldnt hit the broad side of a barn at UW so Mellot must struggle. Chambers is a senior but not sure with the COVID years if he is done or not.

Meanwhile Bizzzzzzon win again even in a "down" year. FCS is pretty annoyed that they keep winning so virtually everyone at that level roots against them. Bizon play South Dakota next.

The double standard........

Just watching some of the Kansas vs UConn game replay and the refs in a very close game called a total of 32 fouls. The play is better of course than what we saw last night in the Wyoming game, but I argue so are the refs. While watching I have seen the UConn center set so many illegal screens if you used the criteria of that female ref last night used. But in this game they were letting the players play. There were 46 fouls called in that game last night! Probably about half were bad calls from refs that wanted to control the game. I know big name schools in more important TV games draw better refs, while we are left with the leftovers. I know refs are in pools, but I am hoping once we get into MWC play that we won't see those refs again.

Just for example, in watching this last offensive series by UConn, I noticed probably about 5 things that would have been called by those refs last night as fouls, but these refs let them play. In the UVa vs Syracuse game there is something like 22 calls so far and the game is almost over.

ESPN Bowl projections.....

I figured that I would go to ESPN because ESPN controls so many of the bowls. This is what they had today. There are two writers that make bowl projections for them, Bonagura and Schlabach, I guess we will see who was more accurate as these guys do not agree.

Bonagura:

Easy Post Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, Hawaii
Saturday, December 23, 2023
Rice vs Wyoming

Pay-out: $1,200,000

Schlabach:

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth, TX.
Saturday, December 23, 2023
Kansas vs Wyoming

Pay-out: $1,350,000

I also looked at the CBS site and they had:

Famous Potato Bowl, Boise, Idaho
Saturday, December 23, 2023
Bowling Green vs Wyoming

Pay-out: $800,000

Other projections for the MWC:

Bonagura:
Fresno State vs Texas State in the New Mexico Bowl
Air Force vs Louisiana in the 68 Ventures Bowl, Mobile, AL.
Utah State vs Arkansas State in the Frisco Bowl, Frisco, TX.

Schlabach:

San Jose State vs Marshall in the Boca Raton Bowl
Utah State vs Bowling Green in the Famous Potato Bowl
Air Force vs Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl

I guess each of us would have their favorite bowl game, personally I would hope that UW gets invited to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, TX. Besides having the highest pay-out, I feel that it has the best opponent, and it would have the best chance of having the best turnout of Wyoming fans. It goes without saying the Famous Potato Bowl has me saying, ugh! I think that Wyoming has payed its dues and deserves a good bowl game this year.

Per CBS they have Boise State playing New Mexico St. in Albuquerque. San Jose State would be playing Georgia State in the Birmingham Bowl, Birmingham, AL.. UNLV per CBS would be playing UCLA in the LA Bowl.
