...that'll fix things. Cowboy basketball ain't been that shiny for a long time, and even when it was "successful" it was a boring, beat-only-cupcakes bunch that did little to inspire the fan base. Now, with the best player in the conference but nobody--literally nothing but freshmen and people on crutches around him, we were supposed to build upon last year's glorious bunch? Justin James, eight newcomers, and nearly every player on the roster being injured at some point this season. Recipe for success...

IMO, Edwards screwed up by not clearing house on the roster two years ago when the smell was first noticed. Should have kept James and Dalton, made Herndon a backup and let everybody else go. Rebuild it then. But the Shyatt people would have lost it; why, we were just another year of Herndon/Dalton/Aka-Gorski building off that CBI championship into a MWC championship.

What actual good would occur if we canned Edwards now? It would wake everyone up? Send a message? Make people focus more? We wouldn't start winning... And who trusts Burman to make an improvement? You want to see a lagging, gasping, irrelevant basketball program take the shank to the chest and finish it off for good, go ahead and can the coach now and let Burman fix it.

This season is a wash. Despite Edwards' brave words at the beginning of the season about no excuses, it always was going to be. My guess is Edwards expected some losses, but hoped to have a workable rotation by MWC play and be trending up by the 2nd go-round through the conference. Persistent injuries became the reality. It makes it tough to set a rotation, build confidence, give extra minutes to guys who practice well. His roster has been set for him (for good and bad). It's what he does with it going forward that matters--the freshmen have to show improvement and the offense needs to be more than James/Thompson jacking up threes with only James rebounding. I have no expectations, but canning Edwards at this juncture doesn't solve anything.
