Cowboys Host Preseason Favorite Boise State on New Year’s Eve

Pokes are 6-0 at home this season


LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 29, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowboys look to build on their three-game winning streak hosting Preseason Mountain West favorite Boise State in the Arena-Auditorium on New Year’s Eve at 6:30 p.m. The Pokes are 6-0 in the Dome of Doom this season for the best start since the 2021-22 season.

About The Teams

Wyoming heads into the contest with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in conference play after defeating Nevada at home 66-63 on Saturday. The Pokes are shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from behind the arc. Opponents are shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc. Wyoming averages 37.4 rebounds per game and are +7.1 on the glass this season, which ranks third in the MW and No. 44 in the nation. Over Wyoming’s three-game winning streak, the Cowboys are shooting 56 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the arc.



Boise State heads into the contest with a 10-3 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play. The Broncos defeated San Jose State on the road 73-71 on Saturday. Boise State is scoring 78.9 points per game and are allowing 66.2 per night for third in the MW. The Broncos shoot 47.7 percent from the field and 42 percent 30.3 percent from behind the arc. Opponents are shooting 42 percent from the field. Boise State grabs 38.8 rebounds per game and leads the conference with a +9.8 rebound margin that ranks No. 14 in the nation.



About The Players

The Cowboys are led in scoring by Obi Agbim with 18.8 points per game. He is shooting 54 percent from the field this season for third in the conference. Agbim is shooting 48.6 percent from behind the arc for first in the MW and No. 14 in the nation. Jordan Nesbitt adds 9.6 points per game and leads the team with 7.8 rebounds to rank fourth in the MW. He ranks second in the league with five double-doubles. Kobe Newton adds 9.5 points per game, as UW has eight players that score five or more points per game.



The Broncos are led in scoring by MW Preseason Player of the Year Tyson Degenhart at 18.2 points per game. He also ranks second on the team at 5.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 52.7 percent from the field. Andrew Meadow adds 12.5 points per game. Alvaro Cardenas adds 6.7 assists per game for second in the Mountain West and No. 11 in the nation. Boise State has five players averaging double-figures this season.



About The Series

The Cowboys and Broncos will meet for the 40th time on Tuesday in a series that dates back to 1979. Boise State holds a 25-14 lead in the series and is 11-10 in Laramie.
