Cowboys Host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Sunday Matinee

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 13, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowboys host the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in a Sunday matinee in the Arena-Auditorium. The second contest of the season for the Brown and Gold is set for a 2 p.m. start. It will be the third all-time meeting between the schools and the first meeting since 2007.
Fans can watch, listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The contest will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Reece Monaco will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.
About The Teams
Wyoming opened the season with an impressive 85-47 win over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday. Wyoming shot 55 percent from the field in the contest. It was the best percentage in an opener since shooting 62 percent against Northern Colorado in the 2014-15 season opener. Wyoming dominated the paint 44-16 for the night. Wyoming also added 13 points off turnovers and recorded 15 second chance points. The Cowboys held the Titans to 31 percent from the field for the lowest percentage in the Jeff Linder era of Wyoming basketball.
Wyoming held a 37-32 advantage on the glass for the night in the opener. Wyoming also recorded 16 assists in the game and recorded six turnovers, the second fewest under head coach Jeff Linder.
The Golden Lions are led by first-year head coach Solomon Bozeman. He took over a program that went 4-21 a season ago, which included a 3-13 mark in the SWAC. UAPB was selected to finish 11th in a the 12-team preseason SWAC poll. The Golden Lions haven’t advanced to the NCAA Tournament since 2010. This season, UAPB has enjoyed a balanced scoring attack that features four players averaging in double figures. The trip to Laramie is the third leg of a seven-game opening-season road trip for the Golden Lions.
About The Players
In the season opener, Wyoming was led by guard Hunter Maldonado with 19 points. He also added six rebounds and nine assists. Forward Graham Ike added 22 points to lead all scorers. He recorded his second 20-plus game of his career and the second in his last three games after 32 against SJSU in the MW tournament. Forward Jeremiah Oden added 14 points going 6-of-7 from the field. Guard Drake Jeffries added 12 points with a team-high four three-pointers.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is led by Shawn Williams who is averaging 21 points per game to go alongside three assists per contest. UAPB represents Williams’ third Division I school, as he’s also suited up for New Mexico State and Nicholls. Trey Sampson stuffs the stat sheet, collecting 17.5 points, seven rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
About The Series
Wyoming and Arkansas-Pine Bluffs will meet for the third time on Sunday. Wyoming defeated UAPB at home in both games winning 78-59 in 2007 and 94-74 in 2001.
