Not much buzz about potential candidates for a job that is clearly going to be vacated. Not much speculation from national media (shows how much we rate). Not even an uptick in rumor mongering. I hope UW hasn’t already made their hire. A common sentiment I’m getting from folks in Laramie is that a coach has already been hired and we’re just waiting. Its pure speculation to be sure, so if you’re going to blow a gasket over speculating on a message board, drop out now. I’m really hoping that if anything, we’re midway through an extensive process where we’ve whittled a list of 6-7 names down to 3-5 who we’ll prioritize and begin approaching in another week. If we have already made a hire, then IMO, UW has chosen not to do decent enough diligence for what may be the most important hire for the hoops program since Benny Dees.
A lot here think Tim Miles is the answer. I’m not as convinced, and I don’t have any favorites, but I guess I’ll shrug and accept Miles as the hire—but it would help if UW can demonstrate they actually made a concerted effort to evaluate a range of candidates who actually want this job, understand it’s risks, it’s high potential to be a career killer, and who want to be in Laramie. If it’s Miles, I expect big things immediately; because it’ll sure appear that UW decided early on he was already the best man for the job and he will have had a much bigger head start on any other prospective candidate for the job.
