How much more losing can happen before it goes from a rebuilding project to a recovery project? I believe Bohl can probably fix things, but the losses need to be less inevitable, because I believe he’s going to run out of time before his “plan” gets fully implemented. How much can a financially-strapped program wait on the rebuild? Do ticket sales matter anymore? The general fan already checked out, and with each loss, the improvement rhetoric sounds more like self-esteem nonsense from daycare providers. 0-12 is not an acceptable part of the rebuilding process. If it gets that far, Bohl’s year three rebuild will instead become a recovery effort to save a sinking program that will have gone 4-16 in two years, and I think he’ll need to win 5-6 games next year to keep his job. Going back to last year, the Pokes are on a 0-9 streak. If you go back a full year to October 11, 2014, we’re 1-12. Bohl is redefining Cowboy futility downward--we haven’t been this bad in 76 years, we’re now regular underdogs on our home field (seven point dogs to Nevada), and Wyoming football is considered the worst team in America. It’s time to win. We’ve had six games to get our $hit together, and Nevada doesn’t scare anybody. Is the breakthrough this week? It better be: Boise St. and Utah St. are likely losses. Lose to Nevada and our rebuild will likely go to 0-9 on the season/0-12 from last year. That is NOT improvement, and people won’t care about how many freshmen we’re playing…
I’m not sure Bohl’s plan for the program can withstand 0-12 without some big changes at the end of the season. Remember, we open with Nebraska and Northern Illinois next year—two more losses? What are the costs to the program? Is it a concern? Recruiting? We have a lot of verbals who say they’ll still come, but that was when we were 0-4, and honestly who can blame them for re-considering if we run 0-12 at them?
It’s an obvious thing to say, but Bohl needs a win now to prove to fans that his plan is believable. I think we’ll get Nevada—and UNLV. But the breakthrough needs to happen...
