UW Student-Athletes Excel in the Classroom

During 2015 Spring Semester

233 Achieve a Semester GPA of 3.00 or Better

Laramie, Wyo. (June 16, 2015) -- University of Wyoming student-athletes concluded the 2015 spring semester with one of their most impressive accomplishments of the year, and that accomplishment came in the classroom. A total of 233 UW student-athletes achieved a spring semester grade point average of 3.00 or better, while 131 of those individuals achieved a 3.50 or greater semester gpa and 43 posted perfect 4.00 gpas for the spring semester.

There were 370 student-athletes on UW rosters during the 2014-15 academic year. The 233 who earned 3.00 or higher gpas for the spring semester equates to 63.0 percent of the total student-athlete population at UW this past year.

“I want to congratulate the student-athletes first and foremost for their hard work and dedication to excelling in the classroom once again this past semester,” said University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman. “Student-athletes have many demands put on their time, and it takes a great deal of discipline to not only manage those demands but to excel academically in addition to athletically. We are very proud of the way these young men and women represent us in the classroom and in competition.

“I want to recognize the fantastic work done by our academic support staff within our athletics department. Their dedication is second to none.

“I also tip my hat to our coaches for the job they’ve done in identifying the true student-athlete during the recruiting process.

"“For over 60 percent of our student-athletes to be achieving at a 3.00 or better is phenomenal.”

All of Wyoming’s athletic teams had representatives on the list of individuals achieving a 3.00 or better semester gpa. A total of 10 different sports were represented on the list of individuals who had a 4.00 gpa.

The 233 student-athletes are studying a wide range of college majors at UW. In fact, the 233 individuals are pursuing degrees in 63 different majors.
