U.S. News & World Report published its annual college rankings Monday, and it was good news for the Nevada Wolf Pack. The athletic department has long used its standing as a Tier I national university as a recruiting tool and the school once again ranked as a Tier I institution, moving up one spot from last year to the 201st position.

Here is a look at where each of the 12 Mountain West schools were slotted in the U.S. News World Report's 2019 rankings. The only change was San Diego State leap-frogging Colorado State for the top spot. None of the other schools changed positions.

Ranked as a national university

No. 127: San Diego State (140th last year)

No. 140: Colorado State (124th last year)

No. 157: Hawaii (159th last year)

No. 183: Wyoming (181st last year)

No. 187: New Mexico (192nd last year)

No. 201: Nevada (202nd last year)

No. 205: Utah State (216th last year)

No. 205: Fresno State (223rd last year)

Ranked, but ranking not published

(These schools are Tier II nationally, between the above group and the below group)

* UNLV

* Boise State

Ranked as regional school (west)

No. 33: San Jose State (35th last year)

Ranked as national liberal arts school

No. 30: Air Force (26th last year)

So, in short, San Diego State is ranked as the best academic school in the MW, San Jose State is ranked as the worst and Nevada is essentially middle of the pack, placing sixth out of the 11 schools (with Air Force fitting its own category).

Nevada reversed its trend of dropping in the recnt ranking. It was No. 187 nationally in the 2016 rankings, No. 197 in 2017 and No. 202 in 2018 before stabilizing in the 2019 rankings at No. 201. Nevada placed 109th among public schools, the same as last year.
