Make no mistake, the preference of Valencia (Calif.) defensive end Joshua Stanton is to maintain his commitment to the Wyoming Cowboy football team. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound terror committed to Wyoming on November 3rd of this year.

However, a change in the coaching staff has Stanton keeping his options open in case the coaching change that led to Dave Christensen's departure and the arrival of Craig Bohl means his scholarship offer from Wyoming won't be available.

"One of the questions is if my offer and commitment is still valued over there," Stanton said. "I need to know if I would be able to commit over there or if my offer is off the table. I also want to know whether they are looking at me in the same position at Wyoming."

This is not the first time Stanton's recruiting contact at Wyoming has changed. At the start of the season Stanton was being recruited by former Wyoming Defensive Coordinator Chris Tormey who was fired midway through the season.

"It was crazy," Stanton, who said he managed 15 sacks this fall, said of his recruitment. "My original recruiter, Coach Tormey was fired. That was different, I had to get contacted with other coaches who let me know what Coach Christensen was all about. After they were fired, I thought at this point, I wondered if my offer was gone and I didn't know whether they are going to honor my commitment or not.

"Everything was leaning towards me contacting other schools. I started to do that, just in case Wyoming didn't honor my commitment, I had a back-up plan. I was just going to contact every single school I can. That was a good feeling to hear they were still interested in me."

Stanton said he has spoken with coaches at San Jose State, Nebraska, Colorado State, and Utah State. He said San Jose State has told him they are very interested and wants to continue to recruit Stanton.

Josh Stanton said he hasn't spoken much about the coaching change to his brother and Wyoming defender, Jordan Stanton, though he anticipates doing that in the next week when Jordan comes back to California.

Josh said he was also supposed to officially visit Wyoming this month, but is unsure of where that process stands as well.

"It has been a hassle just being recruited by the staff that was there." Stanton said. "I am unsure of how Craig Bohl sees me and I look forward to getting to know him more. It would be a great thing to contact him and see if he likes my film."
