The Fine Arts Building has a $9.5 million overrun, including $2 million of which was supposed to be publicly raised funds. The BOT votes to use money from the general fund to cover the shortfall.
The remodel of Hell's Half Acre has a $2 million overrun. The BOT votes to use money from the general fund to cover the shortfall.
The remodel of the AA faces a $2 million shortfall. The BOT denies money from the general fund to cover the shortfall. The building is put on hold to redesign to meet the available funds.
By the way it is the same design department within the university that is charged with making sure the facilities will be built meeting the financial limits. All three projects have a shortfall because of the inaccuracy of the department in Old Main. Two of the three get general funds to complete. One does not get general funds to complete.
And the people against matching funds say the athletic department receives too much financial support from the University?
BTW, if athletics are not important why has the idea of making cutbacks in funding to athletics at the K-12 level not been brought up in trying to combat the financial needs of those programs? (I say that sarcastically so don't yell at me for being against high school athletics).
