IMHO this is a classic example of how sports and political issues just don't mix. What the K-State student is clearly insensitive, rude and in my view wrong. However, it was not that long ago that many folks held to one of the strongest tenants of "Classical Liberalism" - Free speech. Often accompanied by the sentiment that "I may abhor what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Both sides are wrong on this issue in my view, what the K-State student said, and the reaction by some members of the FB team reacting to the comments by trying to extort the University with demands for an expulsion, by saying they will not participate.

I think in hindsight we all feel UW handled the Black-14 incident improperly. It will be interesting to see where the K-State admin handles this issue.

Here's hoping UW avoids a similar dilemma.
