Say this for new Wyoming football coach Craig Bohl, he tends to get pretty excited when players commit.
Last week he gave a bear hug to Conner Cain when he committed in his office. This Saturday, he was at it again with Grandview (Missouri) defensive back, Ryon'e Winters.
"We were in the stadium at the Wildcatter Suites and we were having a conference. I told him I am enjoying myself, I can see myself being here and Coached by John Richardson and Coach (Craig) Bohl. I told him I'm in. He picked me up off of the ground."
And with that short exit from the earth's gravity, Winters became the 13th known commit to the Wyoming football recruiting class of 2014.
Winters is a 6-foot, 183-pounder from Grandview High School where he was a First Team All-State selection as a defensive back. Defensively, he said accounted for four interceptions and on special teams he returned two kicks for a touchdown.
Winters had previously committed to North Dakota State University, but the commitment seemed based on the relationship he had forged with Richardson and Bohl during his recruitment to North Dakota State. Saturday, Winters took in Laramie for the first time and liked what he saw. He said he also liked the fact the coaches told him he would likely remain a cornerback with the opportunity to prove himself on special teams.
"It was fun," Winters said. "You never really hear about Laramie and I never thought about it until I got the call to come visit. It's not bad. I can see myself liking it here so I thought I would commit."
In addition to getting view of the Wildcatter Suites and a short ride from Coach Bohl, Winters said he was able to get some time with all of the coaches on Friday. He said on Saturday, he had the opportunity to see the facilities, meet with academic advisors and check out Laramie itself. Of course the traditional visit snowmobiling trip was also a highlight.
"We went snowmobiling - it was fun," Winters said. "I had never done that before. At one point I almost fell off the machine."
While Grandview and Laramie are a ways apart, Winters said he was able to meet up with several other players from the Kansas City area, which helped him feel closer to home. He said his family also encouraged him to find what school is right for him.
"Everyone, especially my family just wants the best for me," Winter said. "They said where ever I go, they will support me. My dad, he was real excited.
"Its (having his decision made) like a relief off my shoulders. I don't have to worry about the calls, the media, coaches coming to the house."
