While the Wyoming football team managed a commitment from Gillette quarterback Austin Fort yesterday, the Camels' signal caller was not the only in-state quarterback to throw at Wyoming's camp in Laramie on Saturday.
Rock Springs High School's Nick Blume turned some heads with his passing and athletic ability. The 6-foot-1, 182-pound Blume played quarterback and defensive back for the Tigers last season, accounting for 747 yards passing and five scores last year. Blume also ran for 525 yards and eight scores directing Rock Springs' pistol spread option attack.
Blume may be a brighter prospect on defense. Last year he led the team with 49 tackles, four interceptions and broke up four passes.
Blume's high school coach, Tom Jassman, said Blume hasn't had any scholarship offers yet, but has spoken with Wyoming, South Dakota and Utah State.
"He went to the combine camp in Laramie on Saturday and I heard he did fairly well," Jassman said. "He is a quarterback for us and he throws a nice, crisp ball. He has great agility, good vision. He is an athlete with good speed and agility and he buys in to what we are trying to do."
Jassman said the Rock Springs Tigers' offense is designed to offer a defense multiple looks and get to the edge quickly, while offering some misdirection and read option.
