I don't necessarily see it as a major problem to recruit more than one quarterback. Why? Because most high school quarterbacks don't play quarterback in college.
To start with most of them don't play football in college. Then there are those who are asked to change positions, similar to Austin Fort, who fortunately has decided to return to the Wyoming program.
My take is that usually the better athletes are quarterbacks. As they move up in competition the field gets culled, but given their athleticism they fit nicely into other positions. They have a feel for the game, in addition to athleticism.
One of the more telling conversions was the Texas Rangers, who took Kenny Rogers in the 39th round of the draft and gave him $1,000 to sign. He played shortstop and the outfield in high school. The scout like his arm action so the Rangers took a shot.
A few other names I can think of off the top of my head include George Brett, Eric Davis and Bret Saberhagen.
