I know this is subjective, but interested to hear opinions from Cowboy basketball fans when they thought the MW/WAC was strongest?
I thought one strong season was when Leonard (SDSU) and Jimmer (BYU) were in the league. The Thomas & Mack Championship game in Las Vegas actually sold out because of the matchup. Two teams advanced into Sweet 16 from the MW.
2009-10, the MW sent four teams to the NCAA and two advanced into the second round.
2010-11, three NCAA teams and two advanced into the Sweet 16.
2011-12, the MW sent four teams to the NCAA tournament and one advanced.
2012-13, the MW sent an unprecedented five teams to the NCAA tournament with two advancing into the second round.
The 2009 to 2013 period was a good period for Mountain West basketball. Unfortunately, a big part of the period, the Cowboys were under Schroyer.
In 1996 and 1998, Utah Utes made an NCAA Championship Game appearance and Final Four under Rich Majerus. Wyoming was actually one of only four teams to beat Utah in 1998 when they played for National Championship.
