Unless X breaks off several long gainers, against UNR, which is entirely possible, I see X in the 80-100 yd range. I believe that 3 RBs will get multiple carries.
I expect that X, Trey Smith and Titus Swen all will get multiple carries. Freshman Joesph Braasch could get an opportunity to show his stuff too, since 2020 does not count as a year of eligibility.
I believe Bohl and Vigen will ‘spread the wealth’ and the Poke running game will be shared primarily by 3 veteran RBs for the following reasons.
1. It keeps the RBs legs and bodies fresh.
2. Each RB has his own strengths & weaknesses. One may be a better pass blocker. Another a better receiver or ‘breakaway back’ , Another may a better short yardage runner. You get my drift.
3. When you have 3 returning, talented RBs you need to feed them the ball. They all need to be involved.
I honestly don’t think the Pokes will have a true featured RB. I don’t know if a rotation by series or specific situation will develop. But it’s truly a wonderful thing if you are Poke fan.
Yes X came on strong in 2019. 1265 rushing yds says it all. But Trey Smith is also talented and very experienced. Titus Swen rushed for 359 yds and averages 5.2 yds per rush as a Freshman. Emphasis on 5.2 yards per rush.
X played hurt. He showed that he’s is a gamer, has heart, and is a tough hard nosed RB. We also saw that X was pretty ‘beat up’ by the end of the regular season.
The Brian Hill’s of the world are rare, very rare. Going back a bit, Thunder and Lightning (Wynette Seldon and Devon Moore) were a great tandem. So why couldn’t there be a trio?
Maybe this year there will 3 RBs who will continue to develop into really something special and give this offense a truly unique identity.
So I’ll play a sports writer for a while. 3 quality RBs need a ‘nickname’.
The 3 Amigios is too easy. Something ‘new’ that sums things up in a nice bow is needed. ‘The Band’ might work. Perhaps ‘The Magnificent Trio’ or Earth Wind and Fire (All those nicknames are pretty good but are probably to dated for today’s world). Maybe ‘The Force’, ‘The Crew’’,‘‘The Group’, or ‘The Committee’ is a better fit.
From the ‘One Wyoming and ‘Ride For The Brand’ perspective, ‘The Posse’, The Mountain Men‘ or my personal favorite ‘The Cavalymen’ are possibilities.
Sports writers, Sports Informatiin Directors (SID’s) marketing departments, players and fans love nicknames.
Larry Czonka and Jim Kiick were nicknamed ‘Butch and Sundance’. Gale Sayers was known as the Kansas Comet, Earl Campbell was the Tyler Rose. Bo Jackson was simply Known as Bo.
Going way back, Red Geange was ‘The Galloping Ghost’, Elroy Hirsch was ‘Crazy Legs’ and Tom Harmon was ‘Ol 98’. Those nicknames are classics.
Xazavion Valliday, Trey Smith and Titus Swen are a special set of RBs. They deserve a special nickname so that they will live forever in Cowboy lore.
Perhaps these 3, or their team mates, already have a nickname picked out already. If they do have a nickname picked out it’s likely way better than the possibilities I came up with.
I think together these 3 are special enough to have a group nickname.
Any ideas?
