The last 6 games have been tough on the Cowboys for a variety of reasons. I have watched all 6 of the games and I wanted to make the point that teams have shot the ball VERY well against us during that stretch. Here are the stats from the 3 point line and free throws for our opponents for the last 6 games:
Air Force 10-20 3's 50% for the year they average 37.6% 7-8 FT 87.5% for the year they average 65.8%
SDSU 10-20 3's 50% for the year they average 31.4% 9-13 69.2% for the year they average 62.8%
SJSU 10-25 3's 40% for the year they average 29.7% 18-26 69.2% for the year they average 64.9%
NEV 4-12 3's 33% for the year they average 26% 15-15 93.3% for the year they average 69.3%
Fresno St. 6-15 3's 40% for the year they average 31.2% 12-18 66.7% for the year they average 69.3%
UNLV 11-19 58% for the year they average 36.7% 12-14 85.7% for the year they average 69.3%
The last 6 games our opponents are a combined 51-111 45.9% from the 3 point line and 72-94 76.6% from the free throw line. I know those critical of the team would point out that this is an indication that our defense has been poor and in some cases that has been the case, but the bottom line is the during this tough stretch teams have been shooting over their heads from the arc against us. The same is true from the free throw line and that has nothing to do with defense. Interestingly enough in the 2 games against CSU this year they were a combined 5-39 12.8% from the 3 point line and for the year they shoot 35.9% from the arc. Anyone who saw those games knows that they had some open looks in those games that they simply missed. Bottom line is some game teams hit shots and some games they don't.
My point of this post is we have been taken our opponents best shots (no pun intended lol) during the last 6 games. As we head into the last week of the season and MW tourney hopefully teams will shoot to their season averages. Players and coaches; good luck going forward and thanks for your efforts to this point, there is still plenty to play for!
