2020 really sucks. I know you agree with me. I am sure your reasons for agreeing with me are varied and yet somewhat similar to mine. However, I know that my reasons are trivial compared to yours. Yours being gut wrenching, mine not. I have a full head of white flowing locks, you don’t.

I have a two year old bad ass bucket list car in the garage that only has 9000 miles on it and we have had three separate road trips canceled because of COVID-19. To Port Hardy then a ferry ride to Bella Coola. A trip to Auburn, Al to see the grandkids and football and thru the fall colors of Appalachian forests onto NY to see Josh and the Bills. And to Laramie and Windsor to see my Sis and the Cowboys. Oh, maybe take a quick flight to LV to see the Cowboys and then Josh against the Raiders.

Instead we’ve sheltered and pissed and moaned about it. I have the brown bottle flu and I like it. I don’t have COVID-19 and I like it.

Our granddaughter’s (a 400 meter hurdler at BSU…but that’s another story) tough as nails (I once saw him throw a 600 lb horse to the ground!!) owns half of eastern Oregon Buckaroo husband drinks Pendleton. Natch. But with juice? Florida Cowboys and/or Hawaii Cowboys……not natch.

I don’t have a dog so I can’t tell you about how my fur baby has suffered, is suffering or getting fat cause I not exercising it or that I am getting fat because I am not exercising it. I’m just fat. A fork issue.

Oh, oh….My neighbor sold his house for 450 k more than he paid for it just three years ago. Then my garage is full of his junk cause he can’t find a place to move to. What about a storage unit says I, as having just heard those same ‘such a novel idea’ words from my wife. Too expensive says he. It’ll just be a couple of weeks.

My first Cowboys football game was in 1958. I was ten. When Wyoming played LSU in the Sugar Bowl, I was in training in Fort Rucker, AL before VN deployment. I was able to get 3 day pass and a military knothole ticket to the game from the USO for $6.00. The bus ride cost $13.00.

My first year in Laramie the cowboys were 11-1. CSU fumble rooski play. After an all inclusive paid trip to SE Asia ( and a presumptive Agent Orange contact that has lead to a Parkinson’s diagnosis 51 years later, but that’s another story). I returned to Laramie for my second year and the Cowboys went 1-11. CSU again.

While I was away, the Black 14 incident happened. Eight years after that I became a close friend with one of the B14 players. It soon became apparent that my best ex-wife had become an intimate friend(another story in there somewhere).

The highlights of Cowboy sports that I seem to remember are Steve Rhea stuffing over Lionel Hollins and Steve Cockerham and team beating ASU.

I bought a truck from your dad in ’73. Probably paid for your braces.

My wife and I are very fortunate. We both worked hard and scrimped and saved for a comfortable retirement and something for the kids and grandkids. I only mention that because I don’t want to come across as an aloof richard. What is missing most of all from the great life we have are Cowboy successes. Damned few actually. And those damned few were damned far between occurrences. I know the spiel. Can’t recruit to Wyoming and all of that stuff. Get a good coach and they soon leave ala Akers, Dye, Erickson and Tiller. I do know we may now have the coach that we are destined to keep because of lack of resources and stones to fire him. I wonder if you feel secure in your job. You shouldn’t. Everybody but God has a boss.

I’ve always thought that Paul Roach’s hiring of himself was the best thing to happen to UW since Bob Devaney left. I guess you have to put Jim Brandenburg into that fold also.

I had hopes that Craig Bohl’s hire would rank there as well. Apparently not going to happen and apparently can’t afford to get rid of him either …but what about some of his staff. I know, I know…long time friends, he’s got kids in school, one of whom will become a UW quarterback at some later date, etc. Cowboy Up. You’re the nut cutter here. Make a decision and move on.

So, after our dismal football season, and with me hanging on all hope and recently encouraged that the men’s Bball team will finish .500 in conference, I will reiterate, 2020 really sucks.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Oh, one more thing. Relieve Kevin McKinney of his on air duties. He’s done. He’s toast.

Go Pokes! Down a different road.
