All-Colorado offensive lineman Ryan Cummings said Friday that he has one goal any time he is on the football field.

"I try to be the nastiest player on the field," the Valor Christian offensive tackle said. "I want to basically finish each play, put the opposing defensive lineman on the ground, protect the quarterback and execute every play."

It is an attitude that will come in handy as Cummings joins the University of Wyoming football team next fall, a team that could use a little nasty in it as it begins the Coach Craig Bohl era.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Cummings committed to the University of Wyoming after his visit to Laramie last week. He said he attended the visit despite the fact he was sick with mononucleosis. He said the mono kept him in bed much of the week and that he had lost about 15 pounds from his 305-pound frame. He reports he has since gotten over being ill and has packed five pounds back on.

"For me it was getting to know the coaches and the players," Cummings said. "I feel like that was the strongest part of the trip. I have a feeling we are going to win a lot of games in the future with that group."

Last weekend was the second time Cummings had been to Laramie. He said he was up for a Junior Day last year and plans to major in either exercise science or physical science. While he is coming from a large metro, he said the size of the community isn't a concern of his and he remains focused on the mission at hand.

"It is all what you make of it," Cummings said. "It is a smaller community, but you are there to play football, go to school and hang out with your teammates."

Cummings chose Wyoming over scholarship offers from Indiana State and South Dakota State. He said he was also being called by Colorado, Colorado State and Washington State after helping Valor Christian to a one-loss season and State Class 5A title. he claims a squat of 500 pounds and a 375-pound bench press.

"The coaches know I am coming to play," Cummings said. "They know I like to be flexible in the way I play. I am being recruited as a guard, but I can also play tackle or even snap. I feel like I can play any position on the line."
