LARAMIE, Wyo. (APRIL 1, 2020) – University of Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman announced the addition of Ian McMackin to the Cowboy athletic department staff in an effort to rejuvenate interest in Cowboy basketball. Ian has spent the past two decades hidden in an anonymous location in Colorado promoting the Cowboys on a sports site known as GoWyoGo.Com and has been a very positive voice for Cowboy basketball despite years of program ineptitude . McMackin will join the staff as a liaison to the Media Relations, Marketing & Branding and Ticketing & Sales sections. Burman voiced his excitement with the addition of McMackin noting that Ian will have every Cowboy fan mentally prepared for 20 wins or better in basketball on a yearly basis as well as competing for MWC titles. “His positive perspective is second to none” stated Burman. Burman anticipates that with the addition of McMackin, fan attendance will increase by a minimum of 10% in basketball alone. Burman also feels strongly that McMackin will be instrumental in getting additional national media attention.
"Coming back to be a part of the Cowboys is something I only dreamed of," McMackin said. "After leaving my fraternity Delta Tau Chi under the cover of darkness in the early 90’s following a permanent banishment of fraternity members from the Alibi, Cowboy and Library bars, I feel the new and exciting era of social distancing at Wyoming where it is rare to be seen in public is the right fit for me.”
“I understand the Cowboy fan better than anyone” stated McMackin. After leaving Wyoming, McMackin obtained his masters in sports literature and psychiatry from the State University of Colorado – Keenesburg. “As much as attending SUC-K was instrumental in advancing my career, I am so grateful for the value of my prior time at Wyoming when the university had a renowned reputation as a top party school. During that time the basketball program was phenomenal and if I can help return it to the glory years it was in the earlier days of the Area-Auditorium it will be a milestone achievement” proclaimed McMackin.
