If there is any critique of Coach Shyatt and this staff is that our offense and its slow deliberate pace constricts the absolute athleticism of players like Josh Adams. I have really felt that against San Jose St (the first game) and some of the inferior
teams we actually kept them in the game because we didnt attack against
their shoddy defense. Obviously Adams is the type of player that goes a million miles an hour however he is a high risk, high reward type player that is really restricted if he gets sucked in dribbling the ball until a second left in the shot clock. I felt that this offense is quite effective when you are playing teams that are much more athletic and deep than you are and obviously even with a stud like Nance we still need this offense to disguise our deficiencies but I do think at times it hurts us too. Hopefully as the season progresses and Nance gets better, we can learn
how to open things up in games here and there and not be so slow for
times down the home stretch. Some how we need to learn how to take the foot off and on the accelerator.
