The MWC announced 8 conference and 2 OOC games as the parameters for the 2020 season.
Based on the available schedules as of August 6, teams already at 8+2:
AFA
Hawaii
UNM
Teams at 8+1:
BSU
Fresno
SDSU
USU
WYO
Teams at 8:
CSU
UNLV
Nevada
SJSU
There was only one scheduled MWC game outside of the 9-26 start date - BSU @ AFA on 9-12. That gets moved.
The key part for 9 of the 12 teams is simply they won’t play a full allotment unless games are extended into December moving the championship game to 12-12 or 12-19.
The idea Wyoming or any other team can load up with a conference member for an “OOC” game means a contract conflict such as getting Wyoming out of the Ball State game and also a potential of having to play 6 road games.
Two regional solutions with open dates are BYU and NMSU. There simply are not D1 choices available. The FCS is dropping out more and more. FCS teams still in are heavy with their conference games by the end of September.
It really becomes a complex issue. I did figure a way keeping mostly intact the MWC schedule as is using open dates within the MWC, BYU, NMSU and some FCS teams that would work to get everyone a 5 home/5 road schedule from 9-26 to 11-28. But what appears to be available is not reality when it comes to $$$ deals.
It will be interesting to see what the MAC decides as that may make Ball State go away automatically or create a need to renegotiate the contract. Wyoming needs a home game to be at a balance of 5-5. No way CSU would want to play a 4-6 schedule to accommodate Wyoming. Maybe I should not say no way, but if I were CSU I wouldn’t want that. So that means CSU has to get another home game.
We will have to see what the new MWC schedule is and then teams can fill in if they can or play less is the way I see it.
One schedule that is being accommodated is the AFA schedule. The rest of the MWC will work around that schedule. There are a few OOC games with byu and NMSU to work around as well.
Will Wyoming fans feel like we got screwed is the question to be answered...
