With a new DC, it goes without saying that the defensive side will get a lot of attention, and probably the most amount of it through out the spring. With that said, my #1 position to watch will be.....(drum roll please)…..
1. Linebackers - A lot of young talent that runs well behind Chad Muma, but Chad Muma is really it right now. From a group which has Easton Gibbs, Shae Suiaunoa, Charles Hicks and Isaiah Abdullah will have to have someone within that group step up.
2. Wide Receivers - Again a lot of young talent in a position that will HAVE TO step up this coming season. There is a lot of talent I believe, so it will be an interesting one to watch.
3. Tight Ends - The guys that have been here for years.....are gone. Another position with some young guys, but accouple do have some experience. This group needs to stay healthy.
4. Running Backs - I know it is funny that this is an area to watch when you have an All-MWC player coming back. However the RB position is one where guys get beat up, and the depth here will be really critical, but again there is a fair amount of young talent. I hope (and expect) that Dawaiian McNeely will step up, he is quite a talent, and I think that it will be nice to have Trey Smith back next year. Xazavian Valladay needs some one else to be a dependable back to step up behind him, and we need someone behind that guy as well.
5. Quarterback(s) - QB is always a position to watch, mainly because it is so darn interesting to see how a QB operates, but this one will have a young and quality QB learning the ropes. It will be a great battle in the fall that is for sure.
Players that I expect to step up even more than they have already:
Chad Muma
Solomon Byrd
Miles Williams
Keyon Blankenbaker
Ravontae Holt
Gunner Gentry
Levi Williams
Jackson Marcotte
Young players that I think will step up:
Dawaiian McNeely
Alex Brown
Alonzo Hall
Shae Suiaunoa
Keonte Glinton
Titus Swen
