Starting a true freshman QB in only his 2nd game.
The QB who played against us (McKay) put himself in the transfer portal.
Vigen could have gone with a junior who was the starter in 2019 (MSU didn’t play in 2020), but went with the better athlete.
The freshman is Tommy Mellott from Butte MT. So far MSU is up 14-0 1st Qtr.
Mellott is no doubt an athletic gamer who can run and his passes have looked ok. The passing stats aren’t great for him but last week he was like 8/20 on a very windy day.
Vigen has yet to run the A gap play.
