During my summer internship while in law school, a wise man said that everything boils down to the human being's desire for money, sex or salvation. I don't think that the Presidents voted to shut down the season for sex or because they feared the almighty. So it is money. All of the drivel about safety of players is bunk. I agree with the Nebraska AD that the safest place for players is in an active monitoring/testing/safety protocol. I think we could actually handle the social distancing, mask thing in the stands. So did they.
My understanding is that CFD was canceled because of contract acts contracts and the fact that social distancing requirements simply made the economics go upside down. My guess is that the same dynamics were the true drivers for the Presidents. This was, is and will always be about money. Crack the nut of how to make the numbers work without a PR nightmare...and you have football boys and girls.
