It wasn't a bouquet of flowers or breakfast in bed, but Meridian (Idaho) lineman Richard Bettencourt did offer his mother quite a gift this weekend.

"I committed to Wyoming on Wednesday," he said. "Last week was mom's birthday and what better gift than to have school paid for?

"My parents were happy and proud," Bettencourt continued. "That makes me feel good about my choice. My parents have wanted me to commit to Wyoming for longer than I have wanted to. They just had the same feeling I did."

Bettencourt committed to Wyoming, passing up a scholarship offer from Weber State. He was also recruited by Boise State, Oregon State, Utah State, Idaho, Washington State and Cal.

Bettencourt becomes Wyoming's second known commitment in the recruiting class of 2013, the other is Austin Fort, a quarterback from Gillette.

Bettencourt is a 6-foot-3, 288-pound offensive and defensive lineman, who has been recruited by Wyoming as an offensive guard and center, though he said he may also get a look at defensive line.

"I was offered as an offensive center and guard, but I talked to the defensive line coach at Wyoming and he said he would take a look at me as a defensive lineman. He said they might be fighting over me when I come in."

Bettencourt said he committed to Wyoming due to the family feel he has received through the recruiting process. He said he camped at Wyoming's Rock Springs Camp this summer and his recruiter, Brian Michalowski, did a great job through the process.

"I had thought about committing through the summer," Bettencourt said. "There was just a feeling from Wyoming that I didn't get anywhere else. It made me feel like I was a part of the family.

When I called coach Michalowski, he was jacked. He said this was big time and I might have made his year. He did his job very well through this process."
