Coach Bohl mentioned today that two more players went out with "soft tissue" concerns....instead of concussions we have hamstrings to be dealing with this preseason.
Drew Van Maanen and Jake Maulhardt. Luckily we have good depth at both FB and WR.
Speaking of WR's....taking a look at the guys behind Tanner and Jake, you got:
C.J. Johnson (6-2, 196, RFr.) - a young man who was one of the top players out of the State of Nebraska the year that he came out. Runs really good routes and has good speed.
Austin Conway (5-10, 175, RFr.) - has a great deal of speed and was offered by both Nebraska and Colorado in football but came to UW on a basketball scholarship and switched to football during spring ball, redshirted last year and has come on during fall camp.
James Price (6-2, 208, So.) - a young man who was offered by Washington State and played last year as true freshman and has made some spectacular catches in practice.
Joseph Parker (5-10, 185, So.) - a smaller WR but has excellent speed and quickness.
John Okwoli (6-2, 205, Fr.) - a young man who was highly rated and was offered by a number of schools, some being in the PAC-12 and committed late and has come on in fall camp.
There is a lot of talent behind Gentry and Maulhardt, and it is a good thing that these guys are able to work with Josh Allen during fall camp and get their timing down. If these guys are called on early I feel good about the Pokes being in good hands at the WR position (pun intended).
Austin Conway and John Okwoli were both mentioned lately by Coach Bohl as far exceeding expectations. I am getting a little concerned about Tanner Gentry being ready for the season opener as I read where he actually took the red jersey off and then had some issues and had to put it back on. Coach Bohl said that Robert Priester looked like he was getting close to coming back, but haven't heard anything about Dewey except that there will come a time soon where he will need to be ready, or I am guessing he won't play in the opening game. It looks like our depth at WR and DB will get tested right off the bat. I don't know if Coach Bohl has raised his expectations in his 3rd season or not, but it doesn't sound like he was too pleased with areas of the teams performance over the last two days. One thing though he closed his press conference with a joking comment about his sick list, that the list gets a lot shorter once the time draws near to game time....they go see the wizard and magical things happen!
Go Pokes!!!!!!
