And sometimes "cool" to be blasé[/I] about our team, When they win some say that it was alright but not good enough, and when they lose some say "well, I told you so"
But they are OUR team. They are the warriors from our university. They are ours. To say that it is not splashy, not good enough, not our style...these folks need to look around and see that these are the players in the brown and gold that is our state, our university, representing us.
We might be spread far and wide - I am lucky that I am back here in Laramie and I get to see the games with my nephew who is finishing his masters here at the great UW - but we should support this team. We are fans, which is short for fanatics, and that means we love, breathe, and spend each moment with this team (and this university).
I have had many moments of potential taken from me, but I am still here in brown and gold.
I have had times where I wished Wyoming could just do that bit more.
I have seen times where the team has just folded.
but...
I still wear the colors.
I still believe.
I still go to the games...
and I was there when we beat Utah on Bailey's free throws.
and I was there when Fennis sat on the rim
and I was there when the students in Mcintyre welcomed the Pokes back after Utah
If you want the next generation to believe, to hope, to shout, to love this team...Then go to the games. Take along someone who will wear a "22" or a "14" jersey someday.
Scream and yell, don't fell bad about a couple of swear words, stand up and cheer, these are your Pokes.
It is not for nothing that I tell my students in the spring (in a boring history class) before each lecture that "BASKETBALL" is the 2nd most important thing in the world, after history,of course.
Wyoming is who we are.
