Granted, W’s over UNM & UNLV aren’t ‘quality wins’ but they did dispatch AF 17-6.
I watched them destroy UNLV. 34-17.
Here’s what I noticed. SJSU has 2 QBs. One is a very good, I should say excellent, runner. The other is a classic drop back QB who knows how to go through his progressions. His long ball is not so great but his short & middle throws are spot on.
What really impressed me was the Spartan D.
Their DL was relentless. Even with a 3 man rush they sacked the UNLV QB. I’d hate to be the UNKV L tackle when they break down the video. HE GOT DESTROYED.
The Spartan D sticks people. Not only do they make great hits but they wrap up and tackle well.
Not so long ago I was all for the MWC dropping SJSU.
Ian said all things are cyclical. Yes they are. The last time SJSU was 4-0 was 1955. That’s a hell of a cycle.
But Ian was right. (Dang I must admit he’s right more often than not).
SJSU’s schedule gets tougher. 2 of their final 4 games are against BSU (@ Boise) and UNR (Home @ the worst stadium in the MWC).
Could SJSU be the MWC Football Champion? Maybe.
Next week they play FSU. Then they travel to Trucker U. That should be the truth teller.
Their last game is against UNR. If they win 1 of those 2 they should play in the MWC Championship. As the saying goes ‘A chance to play is a chance to win.’
All I can say is SJSU has a lot better chance than the Pokes to be MWC Football Champions in 2020. I never, ever, thought I’d say that.
Believe It hurts to say that. But it is what it is.
If I was a HC at BSU or UNR I’d be nervous. SJSU is for real in 2020.
