They had a good program back in the 80's under Bill McCartney. He was 153 - 93 through 1982 - 1994 and a winning percentage of .624. They won a national championship in I do belive 1990. Following it up with an 11- 1 season and a 3rd place ranking the next year. McCartney's only downfall was a 3 - 6 bowl record.
Then came Neuheisel with a record of 33 - 14 from 1995 through 1998 and a .702 winning percentage. He had a 3 - 3 bowl record. They then hired Gary Barnett from Northwestern after he turned their program around from being a perennial loser. He took the job after Ricky took the UCLA job. Barnett was so-so from 1999 through 2005 with a record of 49 - 38 with a winning percentage of .563, and a 4 - 2 bowl record.
Their new guy Mike McIntyre started out slow but could be turning the program around. His first three seasons he was 9 - 19. This year his record not counting today is 3 - 1. All I am saying is that a once proud program doesn't take long to ruin if you put it in the wrong people's hands. Dan Hawkins had it from 2006 through 2010 and was 18 - 39 with a winning % of.328. After Hawkins they had Embree who was only there as an interim coach and kept on the following season. So basically it takes a lot longer to rebuild than it does to destroy a problem. And Colorado is in a better conference and location to recruit kids to. So people need to understand it is going to take time to do this right. My only complaint is we probably needed some JC players to help out, but am giving a pass on that and letting Bohl do it his way. The attrition is high, but so are Bohl's expectations of his players.
