From what I have read there isn't anything out there showing it favors hiring one or not to. Mixed results. I just figured if you could sway ex players kids like Nance, that you could build a following of talented kids where their family knows there isn't much trouble to get into. And kids wanting to play under an ex NBA player might draw dividends. There are a lot of ex players sitting on collegiate benches and NBA benches waiting their turn.

Reggie Theus, New Mexico State, Cal State Northridge
Chris Mullin, St John's
Danny Manning, Wake Forest

The ones shown were fairly big names in the NBA. You don't have to go after that type. We have talked about just everything out there under the sun, I figure this wouldn't hurt , and maybe have a little fun with.
