I was scrolling through some basketball scores and noticed Heath and his McNeese State were beating up on something called Champion Baptist, which sounds like some sort of online for profit scam diploma mill, and I thought I would take a look at their schedule and see how they were doing and....holy crap it’s the most hilarious thing I have ever seen. They are about to be 6-3, which sounds ok until you look at the schedule and realize...
- They are 0-3 against D-1 opponents. They have played 2/3 of their games against non D-1 teams! Wait! It gets better..
- They had 2 other non-D1 opponents on the schedule but the games were cancelled (I assume because of Covid), so they scheduled 8 non D-1 games! Wait! It gets better...
- So, seems kind of lame to schedule games against D2 teams right? Sure, but alas, even that would pose too much of a challenge for Heath. He did play one D2 opponent, but the others....
- Must be D3 then right? Nope. NAIA? Well, one of the cancelled games was. NAIA Division 2? Nope. Turns out there is a level even lower than the Peru State and Johnson and Wales of the worlds. There is a group of schools that play under the banner of Association of Christian College Athletics. Basically a bunch of tiny bible schools with total enrollments less than 1000. I had no idea this even existed! One of their opponents was Arlington Baptist, which I didn’t realize was a thing and I have lived in DFW for 10 years.
Apparently this is what happens when Heath the Head Coach reports to Heath the Athletics Director (yep, he is the AD as well for some reason). I thought he couldn’t get any lower than destroying our program but he is making a mockery of College Basketball with this schedule.
