At the beginning of the recruiting season, we have a tendency to go through the list of kids who are reporting Wyoming interest, call/write them and get an idea for the level of mutual interest and then start to write stories.

You won't be seeing much in quarterback Harley Kirsch. I sent him an email and got this in return.

Hi Mr. Lacock,

I would prefer to pass on the interview. It has nothing to do with you, Wyoming, or Rivals.com at all. I am very interested in Wyoming.

Here is another Rivals.com article that explains my recruiting plan.

Thanks,
Harley Kirsch

The story linked is from Dirk Knudson, who is a writer in the northwest part of the country and I believe does some coverage for our Washington and Oregon sites on the Rivals.com network. In the story, Kirsch outlines his interest in going off the grid recruiting-wise. Below is an excerpt.
I told him best of luck. Interesting strategy but also one that maybe shows he best understands who holds the power in recruiting, and it isn't recruiting sites or events.

"First off Dirk let me say this. I am interested in any level of school and am talking to and visiting BCS, FBS, and FCS schools. Most Ivy schools are talking to me heavily now and I am interested in the academic side (business finance) as much or more so than football," said Kirsch.[/B]
The plan he says is this.
"Over the years I have seen my stock rise and fall on the recruiting websites (with no rhyme or reason). I have not traveled the camp circuit as much as other top rated quarterbacks (only 1 Nike and 1 Rivals appearance) and I do not plan on running across the country this Summer. My belief has always been that game film is a better indicator of performance than summer 7 on 7 camps. I would rather directly visit the schools that are interested in me. I don't focus on ratings and rankings so I have decided to go old school and keep my offers to myself and not publish them. I understands that it may hurt me with website rankings and fan interest, but it does not seem to hurt me with colleges as dozens of schools are recruiting me. I will directly verbal to the school that I want to be at when the time is right. My perfect school is a school that really wants me to be a part of their program and that offers a business degree that will open doors in the future."[/B]
