According to new Wyoming defensive tackle recruit, Conner Cain, five of the eight recruits who visited Laramie this weekend committed to the Cowboys.

That number has a chance to grow, though not necessarily right away. Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Xavier defensive tackle Daniel Vega spent the weekend in Laramie and liked what he saw. The Illinois State commitment said the visit was good enough to make him consider a change.

"I basically have to get home and talk to my parents," the 6-foot-3, 270-pound Vega said Sunday afternoon. "Right now I am still a Redbird but I will talk to the parents, brother and sister. Come signing day I'll have to make a decision and I'll be happy with it.

"I got everything I needed to get out of this weekend at Wyoming and I know everything I need to know about Illinois State to decide if I want to stay a Redbird or become a Cowboy."

Vega was an All-Stater in Iowa last year after accounting for 60 tackles, including 19 for a loss. The Cedar Rapids Gazette named Vega the Metro Defensive Player of the Year in the state's second-largest city.

This weekend, Vega said he got the chance to check out the University of Wyoming and Laramie. He liked what his eyes seen around the town and campus.

"It was awesome," Vega said. As soon as I got here I really enjoyed everything. The coaches were really nice. Everything was just great."

Vega said he loved the opportunity to snowmobiling in the Snowy Range, a chance to see the Wyoming-San Jose State basketball game, as well as a chance to hang out with his visit host, current Wyoming defensive tackle, James Diamanti.

"I really enjoyed everything," he said. "Everything about it was great. From the drive in, one of the coaches picked me up at the airport. From there on, the visit was really great. Just the drive up from the airport started off great and things kept going up from there."

Vega said he was told by the Wyoming coaches they see him as a three technique defensive tackle and someone who can play against both the run and the pass.

"The coaches said if I worked hard during the off-season and in the fall, I would have a chance to play some during my first year on-campus."
